Time is running out to submit a comment in opposition to the citizenship question on the 2020 Census. The deadline is August 7. The Leadership Conference, NALEO, Asian Americans Advancing Justice and other partners have developed a microsite to submit comments at http://censuscounts.org/

Syracuse Peace Council’s Street Heat

Tuesday August 7th 4:15 – 5 PM Hancock Airbase, opposite main gate 6000 E. Molloy Rd

Saturday August 4th 9 AM – 9:45 AM by Regional Market Main Entrance Syracuse

Tuesday August 14th 4:15 – 5 PM south end Northern Lights Mattydale (opposite Rt 81 off ramp)

The Syracuse area hosts Hancock Air National Guard base where the Guard’s 174th Attack Wing conducts drone assassination and target identification missions using MQ-9 Reaper drone in Afghanistan and probably elsewhere. Syracuse Peace Council’s Street Heat holds a twice monthly presence outside Hancock Airbase to call for an end to the illegal and immoral killing of human beings by weaponized drones, which are piloted remotely from the base.

Judge Kavanaugh and the Future of the Supreme Court: A Teach-In

Wednesday August 8th 6:30 PM – 8 PM 1419 Salt Springs Rd, Syracuse

 What does Pres. Trump’s nomination of Judge Kavanaugh mean for the future of the Supreme Court and the Constitution? Four local scholars will help us understand: Nina Moore, Colgate University; Jonathan Parent, Le Moyne College; David Driesen, SU College of Law; and Tom Keck, SU’s Maxwell School. The event will take place at Le Moyne College’s Panasci Family Chapel.


Reception for Renewables

 On Thursday, August 9th, in the beautiful courtyard and bar at Benjamin’s in Downtown Syracuse, join us for a Reception for Renewables. We’ll be premiering the next episode of the Road to Renewables online video series featuring the launch and progress of the first community solar farm in NY with Renovus Solar!

We will also be showcasing local organizations, campaigns, and renewable energy companies.
The reception will feature:

  • Premier of the next episode of the Road to Renewables online video series featuring the launch of the first community solar farm in New York by Renovus Solar
  • Tables with information from local climate/environmental groups and renewable energy companies
  • Meet and Greet with clean energy advocates and installers

SPAARC (Syracuse Police Accountability And Reform Coalition) Twice Monthly Meeting

A collection of groups and individuals working together to increase the accountability and transparency of the Syracuse Police Department and to imagine and work for reforms to the current system of policing in the city. SPAARC meets every 2nd and 4th Mondays.
