Working Together to Solve Public Problems

Wednesday, Mar 27th 6 PM – 7:30 PM  · South West Community Center 401 South Avenue, Syracuse

Do you ever find it hard to work in groups? Do you get frustrated or angry? Do you feel like the group doesn’t get anything done? You’re not alone.

Our communities face many challenges–poverty,
crumbling infrastructure, and gun violence to name just a few. Addressing these
challenges requires that we work together. To do that successfully, we have to
better understand what we each bring to the table and what we need from others.
We need to identify the ground rules and practices that make us effective.

Join us for this hands-on workshop and take away
strategies that will make us better at working together to solve public
problems.

Herstory: The Not-So-Golden Life of the Gilded Age Wife

Saturday March 30th 1 PM – 2 PM · Onondaga Historical Association 321 Montgomery Street, Syracuse

For Women’s History Month, we’re excited to welcome Ehris Urban and Velya Jancz-Urban, who make up the Grounded Goodwife, for “The Not-So-Golden Life of the Gilded
Age Wife.”

Laugh, grimace, and honor our foremothers’
journeys while learning about the little-known issues faced by women during
America’s Gilded Age.

“Although Gilded Age women in the upper and
lower classes had many differences, they had one similarity – women were viewed
as second best to men, and were expected to be content with this role in
society.”

This unique presentation is offered by Ehris Urban
(herbalist, daughter) and Velya Jancz-Urban (historian, mother) who believe
healing comes from nature, history, and within. The duo offer unique
holistic/historic workshops, presentations, and events at a variety of venues,
as well as at their colonial home.

$8 for OHA Members, $10 for non-members.

We met her during the sit in at the War Room in
Albany last year organized by the PPC. From one of her speeches: “I’m a
woman, I’m White, I’m Latina, I’m black, I’m queer, and I’m a combat veteran.
As a person existing at the intersection of these identities, I carry a grave
conviction in my core that there can be no economic, racial or gender
liberation without addressing the militarism that is strangling the empathy and
morality out of our society.”
