Support the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act
From our friends at Citizens Climate Lobby: Rep. Katko is one six Republican House members targeted as potential co-sponsors of H.R. 763: Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which would impose a fee on the carbon content of fuels that contribute to global climate disruption. The bill would reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by a projected 40% over 12 years and would provide rebates to consumers to defray increased energy costs. Please call Katko and urge him to co-sponsor the bill. Advocates are hoping to get 5 constituents to call Katko every day this month, so you have two options: 1) If the best way to remember is just to make your call today, then do that. 2) Alternatively, use this link to sign up for a specific day to call next week. RiseUp for Social Action Training Day
9 am — 3:30 pm, Bishop Harrison Center, 1342 Lancaster Ave., Syracuse
This day of training and skill-building for organizers and activists will include 3 workshop sessions (with multiple choices during each session) and a keynote talk on community-based efforts to combat poverty featuring John Washington, Co-Director of organizing PUSH Buffalo and Ocesa Keaton of Syracuse Greater HOPE. The day will be valuable for experienced organizers and newcomers alike.
The day is organized by RiseUp for Social Action, in conjunction with the Urban Jobs Task Force, CNY Solidarity Coalition, Workers Center of CNY, National Action Network, Seeds of Peace, Uplift Syracuse, Syracuse Peace Council, Parents for Public Schools, CNY NOW, All Saints Parish and the Green Party.
Support for this project has been provided by a “What If…” mini-grant from the Gifford Foundation.
Workshop options include Working as an Ally to a Targeted Group, Facilitating Effective Meetings, Communication Tools for Organizers and much more.
Lunch will be provided, along with onsite childcare. Interpretation for Spanish speakers will be available at the keynote and for selected workshops. See the full details.
