Let us Ensure that the Record is Straight on the Mueller Report!

In The Post-Standard of Thursday, April 25, Mr. Katko, who claimed to have read the entire Mueller report, stated “If they [Mueller’s investigators] found clear-cut obstruction, they would have said so in the report.” But maybe our congressman didn’t get to Part II of the report! He failed to see in the Introduction to Part II that the DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC)had determined the reason for not indicting a sitting president. In addition, if you watched the Editorial Board meeting on the website, you will notice that neither the reporter nor any of the editors questioned John Katko on any of his statements.

There are three (3) actions today:

Write to Mark Weiner at mweiner@syracuse.com to express your concern that (a) he did not do his reporter’s minimum due diligence by fact checking his article and (b) demand that he write a correction or in someway correct the reader’s understanding of the report. Did he read the report?

Write to The Post-Standard editorial board to express your concern that they either (a) did not fact check or did not insist that their reporter fact check, and (b) demand that a correction of misinformation be published for reader’s true understanding of the report. Did anyone read the report? The members of the editorial board are: Timothy Kennedy, Trish LaMonte, John Lammers, Jason Murray, Marie Morelli. Use the same email format as above for Mark Weiner.

Write letters to the editor about Congressman Katko’s misstatements about the Mueller Report. Katko was a longtime prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office, part of the Dept. of Justice. How could he claim that Mueller would do something other than what Mueller said he would do in the report (follow OLC directive)? Did he really read Mueller’s report… the whole thing?

Mon., May 13. 6:30: Making Sense of the Mueller Report. Indivisible Cayuga Meeting, Phoenix Building, 2 South Street, Auburn NY.
Professor Thomas Keck, Ph.D., of Syracuse University will join us. Dr. Keck is Professor of Political Science at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He is a leading expert on the Supreme Court, constitutional development, freedom of speech and has written several scholarly works about these and related topics. Just this month Dr. Keck was named a 2019 Carnegie Fellow.

Sat., May 18 – Sun. May 19: Steven Cross, acting professor at SU and founder of Building Company Theater, will perform his new work, Fragile White Guy, at Art Rage for 2 shows only on May 18 and 19. It is based on themes drawn from the discourse on the book White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism by Robin DiAngelo.
