Action Alerts – Week of May 13th

CNY Solidarity members and supporters:

Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24 and our legislative action teams.

I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this in a previous alert, but Indivisible co-founders Ezra Levin and Leah Greenberg are writing a book about the Indivisible movement and about rebuilding democracy after Trump. You can pre-order it here. All royalties go to support Indivisible’s organizing.

Today (May 13)

Multiple meetings/events this evening.

Climate Change Protection Act – Action Steps

Members of CCAA (Climate Change Action & Awareness) and CNY Solidarity’s Climate Justice Committee attended the regional hearing on the CCPA hosted by state Senator Rachel May on February 21 in Syracuse. Senator May (SD-53) is a co- sponsor of the CCPA (bill no. S2992 in the Senate; A3876 in the Assembly). We have six weeks to pass this bill this legislative session. Today, please call your state Senator and/or state Assemblymember and urge them to support this bill (or thank them for their continued support, as the case may be). Most of us are represented in the Assembly by Pam Hunter (315-449-9536), Al Stirpe (315-452-1115), Bill Magnarelli (315-428-9651), or Gary Finch (315-255-3045); if you’re not sure whose district you’re in, click here or here and enter your address to find out. Likewise, most of us are represented in the State Senate by Rachel May (315-478-8745), Bob Antonacci (315-428-7632), or James Seward (607-432-5524), but those links will help you find out if you’re not sure. If you have time for 2 additional calls, please also weigh in with Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (518-455-2585) and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (518-455-3791).

#LetNYVote

From our statewide Indivisible partners: We had some great early victories for voting rights in New York this session: legislators passed a big chunk of the #LetNYVote package on day two. But we aren’t stopping there; it’s time to make sure our reps don’t think their job is done with regards to expanding democracy in New York. There are some important voting rights bills that still need their support, especially voting rights restoration for people on parole (A 4987/S 1931). More details here. Today, please call your state assembly member and urge him/her to support this important bill.
