Important Nationwide Action Nov. 4

Protect Democracy CNY RallyClinton Square, Nov.4 at 5 PM

The date and nature of this action could change. Watch email and Facebook from Nov. 4.

Protect Democracy CNY, a coalition of local progressive organizations, has been formed to respond if/when Trump tries to steal the election. We know that Trump is prepared to declare victory and begin legal battles if the results reported on Nov. 3 are close.

Indivisible/ProtecttheResults has pulled together a nationwide network of organizations ready to respond. https://protecttheresults.com. They will issue a final call for action on Nov. 4, depending on the national situation. Meanwhile, we are planning a large rally in Clinton Square on Nov. 4. The action may be delayed a few days, or otherwise modified, depending on the situation. This overall effort may require weeks or months of work.

The public needs to see nationwide mass actions resisting a takeover attempt. This, in conjunction with other important strategies, can have a pivotal impact.  See 10 Things You Need to Know to Stop a Coup

If an ongoing effort proves necessary, you can DONATE to support it: Donate to CNY Solidarity Coalition at https://www.cnysolidarity.org or mail a check to CNY Solidarity, 2013 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13210. All contributions during this period will be available to support Protect Democracy CNY’s efforts. We are making an initial contribution to Cuse Action Medics (FB Here), who have been invaluable at protests, to help them prepare.

How to Beat an Election-Related Power Grab

Democracy is fragile. We have reason to worry that this fall we may see an undemocratic power grab — a coup. We also know that the people can defend our democracy. Nonviolent mass protests have stopped coups in other places, and we may have to do the same in this country.
Elections work because the public agrees to honor the results. Similarly, coups work only if the public honors them. When the public refuses to accept the coup as legitimate, coups fall apart. Refusal looks like millions of people using nonviolent tools to delegitimize the coup by demonstrating, resisting orders, and shutting down the country until democracy prevails.
Join this national workshop led by George Lakey, with Zein Nakhoda. The two-hour workshop will share the most important things to know and practice in order to be ready in the event of a coup.

Street Theater Performance of “Alice’s Nightmare in Drone Land”
Thursday, October 29 at 11:00am
Main Gate of Hancock Air Field, 6001 E. Molloy Rd, Mattydale, NY 13211
Masks & physical distancing required.

On October 29, you’re invited to join Upstate Drone Action for a unique street theater performance of “Alice’s Nightmare in Drone Land” outside of the Hancock Air Base near Syracuse. Our country has gone down the rabbit hole – racially, spiritually, and economically. The Pentagon squanders essential resources on endless wars and weapons. The MQ9 Reaper drone piloted right here in Upstate New York from the Hancock Air Base is used to perpetrate war crimes overseas in Afghanistan, where civilians are killed, maimed, displaced, orphaned, and widowed by these drones. And let us not forget that, although drones are often touted as a means for so-called “targeted killing,” the majority of those killed by drones have been unidentified.
Little wonder that we must call upon Alice, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, and the Cheshire Cat to help wake folks up and demand change…

Election Day  – November 3. We hope you have voted already!

WAITING FOR NORMAL: Cuba and the United States

October 22, 2020 to January 17, 2021 at ArtRage Gallery

You must make a reservation to view this exhibit in the gallery!

CLICK HERE to reserve your time to see the exhibit.

People feel an undeniable attraction to Cuba after visiting even once. It’s mostly about the people—their warmth and friendliness, their art, music and culture. However, it is almost impossible to photograph or create art in Cuba without capturing the effects of the embargo. Photographer Joe Guerriero’s photography and film work does just that, reflecting more than 20 years of spending time with the Cuban people and experiencing first hand the effects of the United States’ continuing embargo of the island. He shows how the embargo affects the lives not only of Cubans but of those Cuban-Americans who still have relatives in Cuba.
