CNY Solidarity Coalition

United in defense of our community and our neighbors

Action Alerts – Week of April 12, 2021

CNY Solidarity members and supporters:

Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24.

Our main focus nationally remains on democracy reform, including S. 1: For the People Act (a big package of voting rights, gerrymandering, campaign finance, and ethics reforms), H.R. 4: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (which would restore provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Acts that have been gutted by Supreme Court), and H.R. 51: Washington, DC Admission Act (which would finally grant statehood and full congressional representation to D.C. residents).

These measures will only pass if the Democrats change the Senate rules to get rid of the filibuster, a Jim Crow relic at odds with the majority rule the Framers envisioned.

This Wednesday night Indivisible launches its Truth Brigade to support S. 1 & H.R. 1.  Indivisible offers guidance on use of Pro-voter Language here  from our friends at Democracy Defense Coalition, and resources such as  The Truth Brigade Welcome Guide on how to fight the lies, and this disinformation tip line to report bad actors, from our friends at Common Cause.

Indivisible Training on Twitter Basics will be offered this Tuesday and repeated on Thursday.  In Save the Dates, please note Twitter Strategies training next week.

And now, on to the week’s actions.

Democrats are trying to pass the most significant voting rights and democracy reform bill in more than half a century, but Republicans are lying about what the bill will do and rebranding it as radical and corrupt. This is where you come in — share the message in this explainer to ensure Americans know the truth. We’re partnering with our friends at Media Matters to learn how the media both intentionally and unintentionally supports large-scale misinformation, and we’ll be taking action together to pressure those influencers. Register now!

This is a low-volume list (typically no more than 4-6 messages per week), which now has more than 2,000 subscribers. We also maintain higher-volume listservs as venues for discussion of general Coalition-wide issues (discussion-cnysolidarity), key state and local action team organizing priorities (stateleg-cnysolidarity), and key Indivisible NY24 organizing priorities (IndivisibleNY24). The latter list includes more frequent action alerts and information about local electoral campaigns supported by Indivisible. If you’d like to be added to any of these lists, please reply to me and let me know which ones.
