Action Alerts – Week of May 3, 2021

CNY Solidarity members and supporters:

Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24.

Locally, we encourage everyone to check out the good work at Flip the Onondaga County Legislature. We’ve got multiple progressive candidates on the ballot this year, and they need our support.

Nationally, our main focus remains on democracy reform, including S. 1: For the People Act (a big package of voting rights, gerrymandering, campaign finance, and ethics reforms), H.R. 4: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (which would restore provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Acts that have been gutted by Supreme Court), and H.R. 51: Washington, DC Admission Act, which passed the House last week. Passing these measures will likely require reform of Senate filibuster rules, and doing so is necessary to break the downward “doom loop” of democratic erosion.

Today (May 3)

In the American Rescue Plan $89 million was given to Onondaga County with very few strings attached.  The decision on how to spend this money resides with County Executive Ryan McMahon and the Onondaga County Legislature.  In a recent opinion letter Dustin Czarny outlines the need  and ways to invest money to preserve fair elections.  Read Dustin’s letter Here  and in support of this funding effort make a call to your county legislator.

Friday (May 7)

You’re receiving this email because you’re subscribed to the CNY Solidarity Coalition announcements list. This is a low-volume list (typically no more than 4-6 messages per week), which now has more than 2,000 subscribers. We also maintain higher-volume listservs as venues for discussion of general Coalition-wide issues (discussion-cnysolidarity), key state and local action team organizing priorities (stateleg-cnysolidarity), and key Indivisible NY24 organizing priorities (IndivisibleNY24). The latter list includes more frequent action alerts and information about local electoral campaigns supported by Indivisible. If you’d like to be added to any of these lists, please reply to me and let me know which ones.
