CNY Solidarity & Indvisible Onondaga County

Thank you Congressman John Mannion for attending our meeting this past Sunday. Always great when our representatives join us face to face to answer questions. Congressman Mannion called out the need to protect our elections to preserve our democracy. He talked about affordability, campaign finance reform, supreme court reform, immigration reform and control of the media. Other questions that were asked were about war, agriculture, cuts to social services and more.
CNY Solidarity and Indivisible Onondaga County encourages our members to get involved in campaigns. Our members knock on doors, make phone calls, write postcards to voters and share information with their family, friends and neighbors. But the work doesn’t stop there. After the election, we continue to engage with our representatives, watch their votes and hold them accountable.

Call your Assemblymember about the ASAP Act today! New York’s budget negotiations are happening right now and the future of affordable distributed solar is on the line. We are hearing that a scaled back approach to the ASAP Act is being considered, and that would fall short of what New Yorkers need and deserve. The Senate passed the full ASAP Act, which would double New York’s solar goal, modernize our grid, and save New Yorkers more than $1 billion every single year in energy costs. But we need the Assembly to do the same. If we don’t act now, that opportunity could slip away in the budget. This is our window! Use this tool to call today!

Stop Congress from Erasing Trans Students! The anti-equality controlled U.S. House of Representatives can’t get over their obsession with attacking trans kids. This week, they are voting on a bill that would ban schools across the country from teaching about gender identity, using students’ correct names and pronouns, having books with trans characters – or even acknowledge the existence of trans people. This isn’t policy. It’s cruelty. Tell your Representative to vote NO on this horrendous MAGA bill. Send a message now!

Economic Power – Fidelity and Vanguard are blocking donations to Southern Poverty Law Center Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
Fidelity and Vanguard’s charitable arms have reportedly paused grants to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) through their donor-advised funds after the group was indicted on federal charges. The Justice Department last week charged the civil rights nonprofit with financial crimes, including wire fraud and money laundering. In the wake of the charges, many supporters moved to donate to help support the group’s legal defense, The New York Times reported. However, both Fidelity Charitable and Vanguard Charitable said they are temporarily pausing grants to the organization while the case moves forward, according to the outlet.
