Action Alerts – Week of July 9th

CNY Solidarity members and supporters:

Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24 and our legislative action teams. Highlight of the week is Rep. Katko’s appearance with Ivanka Trump THIS MORNING (Monday, July 9). We’ll be protesting outside P-Tech at ITC, 258 E. Adams St. from 11:00-1:00. More details here. Ivanka is also appearing with Rep. Claudia Tenney this morning in Preble, and our friends at Indivisible Cortland are assembling for a protest even as I write this. More details here.

Tuesday (July 10)

RED ALERT on Supreme Court—Meeting and Phone Calls

President Trump is expected to announce his Supreme Court nominee on Monday evening. On Tuesday at noon, we have a meeting set with Joe Nehme, Senator Schumer’s regional director, focused on the Supreme Court fight (though OK to bring other issues briefly). Anyone is welcome to attend. The meeting is at Noon at 2013 East Genesee Street (the Peace and Social Justice Center); we’ll meet at 11:30 a.m. to talk through the agenda for the meeting.

If you can’t make the meeting (or even if you can!), please amplify our message by calling Schumer’s office to say that no president under potential criminal investigation should be allowed to appoint a Supreme Court justice who will rule on his own case. Sen. Schumer is at 202-224-6542 or 315-423-5471.

Wednesday (July 11)

Stop Trump’s Takeover of DOJ

This one is not as high-profile as the Supreme Court nomination, but Trump has nominated Brian Benczkowski to head DOJ’s Criminal Division. He formerly represented Russia’s Alfa Bank and served as a staffer to Jeff Sessions. He has no prosecutorial experience and has refused to commit to recusing himself from Russia-related matters if confirmed. We can’t afford to let a potential Russian ally supervise 600 federal prosecutors, oversee the criminal investigation of Michael Cohen, etc. Today, please call Sen. Schumer and/or Gillibrand and urge them to oppose this nomination. Sen. Schumer is at 202-224-6542 or 315-423-5471; Sen. Gillibrand at 202-224-4451 or 315-448-0470.

CNY Solidarity Coalition Meeting

Join us for a full coalition meeting on a week night! We will have announcements and then break out into committee meetings. 7-8:30pm at Bishop Harrison Center. More details here.

Thursday (July 12)

Is Gov. Cuomo Doing Everything He Can to Push Back against Trump’s Criminality?

On June 14, New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood filed a civil complaint against President Trump and his three adult children, alleging “persistently illegal conduct” w/r/t spending by the Donald J. Trump Foundation. At the same time, AG Underwood wrote to the IRS and the FEC recommending further investigation of potential criminal activity by Pres. Trump. More details here. Today, please email Governor Cuomo and urge him to direct the NY State Police and/or State Department of Taxation and Finance to initiate a criminal tax investigation and refer the matter the AG Underwood.
