Resistance is NOT a one lane highway. Maybe your lane is protesting, maybe your lane is organizing, maybe your lane is counseling, maybe your lane is art activism, maybe your lane is surviving the day. Do NOT feel guilty for not occupying every lane. We need all of them.

Submit A Public Comment on the Micron Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)
Jobs to Move America and our partner local organizations including SustainCNY have organized a site for folks in the community to be able to easily comment during the Micron DEIS review and public comment period which is open until August 11th. We have included a comment template but we encourage you to add or edit this comment to personalize it with the issues and concerns that matter most to you.
Please submit your personalized comments here.
Here is a reference page of experts’ (from SustainCNY and local organizations) summaries and analysis of the Micron DEIS and potential impacts that folks can review when writing their own comments. Many experts who have been reviewing the DEIS have identified significant gaps in the analysis.

Support the Workers’ Center Of Central New York
WCCNY is part of a nation-wide network of innovative workers’ centers affiliated with the Chicago-based Interfaith Worker Justice (IWJ). It operates in and around the city of Syracuse, to facilitate worker empowerment and leadership development through trainings related to workers’ rights and occupational health and safety, orchestrates campaigns to combat wage theft and to promote employer compliance with the law, and engages in organizing and coalition-building to push for policies that will increase wages and workplace standards and promote human rights.
There are several ways that we can all be involved with WCCNY:

Take Action TODAY: Tell DiNapoli NO MORE ISRAEL BONDS!
Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is proud of the NYSCRF holding over $350 million in these war bonds, which provide unrestricted funds for Israel’s assault on Gaza. On August 1, a bond valued at $5 million will mature. We need to tell DiNapoli loud and clear: Cash in! Don’t sink that $5 million back into genocidal junk bonds!
Join the Break the Bonds New York State (BTBNYS) campaign to contact the Comptroller’s office. We’ll be putting on the pressure by sending emails to his regional public affairs directors, who are required to track and respond to New Yorkers’ concerns – and share those concerns with the Comptroller.

Urge Madison County Sheriff Hood to Rescind ICE Partnership
Residents of Madison County are deeply troubled by Sheriff Todd Hood’s decision to partner with ICE. This decision was made without public input and apparently without consultation with the Board of Supervisors, which oversees the Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Hood himself has acknowledged that illegal immigration is not a significant issue in our county, yet he has committed to dedicating our valuable deputies to assist ICE.

Letters to the Editor
CNY Solidarity Coalition encourages letters to the editor regarding issues affecting us locally and nationwide. We also recommend that letters are written in response to recent articles; these are more likely to get published. Links to these articles will be included each week.
If you’re looking for a subject to write about, here are this week’s suggestions:
Guidelines for writing Letters to the Editor, with a link to previously submitted letters, can be found on our website.
If you’ve written a Letter to the Editor, whether it’s been published or not, consider forwarding a copy to cnysolnews@gmail.com, so that it can be added to our website’s “Opinion” section.

Syracuse police try for 3rd time to convince Common Council to approve drone program
Syracuse Councilor Chol Majok, who chairs the Common Council’s Public Safety Committee, brought forward legislation that would allow the police department to buy “drone as first responder” software. Similar drone programs are proliferating across the country, alarming civil rights advocates, privacy activists, and surveillance technology watchdogs.

Freedom Flotilla Sails to Gaza to Break Israel’s “Engineered Famine”
Activist Huwaida Arraf reports that a second group of international activists with the Freedom Flotilla Coalition are en route to Gaza to challenge Israel’s blockade. Their ship, named the Handala, launched from Italy five days ago carrying humanitarian aid desperately needed by Gaza’s starving population. The Freedom Flotilla’s most recent attempt to deliver aid was prevented by the Israeli military when their ship was raided and seized in international waters.

Farmworkers are Essential, We Must Protect Them
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) this week proposed a litany of deregulation measures aimed at rescinding or rewriting over 60 current workplace regulations. The proposal, if enacted, would eliminate minimum wages in certain sectors, make workers across industries less safe on the job and leave them with little recourse to rectify dangerous, unjust and hazardous workplace conditions.
Unsurprisingly, the DOL’s proposed rule changes specifically target regulations designed to protect farmworkers.

Trump’s EPA Is Trying to End America’s Fight Against Climate Change
The EPA is reportedly preparing to rescind a landmark 2009 declaration, known as the “endangerment finding,” which determined that greenhouse gas emissions pose a danger to humans. The finding was the legal predicate for regulating emissions under the Clean Air Act, as well as for the government’s ability to regulate car emissions and pollution more broadly.

The more Trump’s tyranny is exposed, the stronger the resistance.
Trump has entered a new and wilder stage of authoritarian neofascism. No holds barred. Nothing out of bounds. Rapacious, racist, nativist, vindictive, corrupt.
In his desperate attempt to deflect attention from his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, he’s even accusing Barack Obama of treason.
If you’re also horrified by all this, know that most other Americans are, too (if polls are to be believed).
Resistance is more important than ever.

Medicaid and Medicare are essential programs that provide healthcare to millions and sustain the health workforce that serves our communities. On July 30, we will rally to protect and strengthen Medicaid and Medicare—to highlight how vital these programs are to our community, and to expose how the Republican tax and budget bill prioritizes corporate profits over people’s health

Wednesday August 6 at 4:30 pm
Art In The Atrium, 201 East Washington St, Syracuse
The annual procession honors the lives lost that terrible day, and is a reminder of the horrific consequences of nuclear weapons. Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here, in Ithaca and elsewhere. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for.
A handful of us stand at busy intersections, for 45 minutes at rush hour, pivoting to the traffic with hand-held signs. We want to get the public thinking about issues often underrepresented in the media. We’re there weekly in almost all of Syracuse’s weather (we seldom cancel). Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!) Our Team: Ann, Dick, Ed, Geoff, Jim, Julienne, Les, Leslie, Peter….
