Indivisible Onondaga County signed a letter in solidarity with about 560 Indivisibles and other progressive groups nationwide to be delivered to all US Democratic Senators. This letter urges:
- Block of the federal budget to defend healthcare for millions of Americans
- End this administration’s occupation of US cities
- Prohibit ICE from wearing masks and requiring them to ID themselves
- End budget rescissions that terminate funding already approved by Congress
- End efforts to restrict voter rights
- End DHS, DOJ, and Palantir’s massive SAVE master database
- Slash Homeland Security’s funding back to 2024 levels
- Full reinstatement of all fired independent inspectors generals
- Full reinstatement of all fired members of NLRB and EEOC
- Full reinstatement of PBS funding
- Full resumption of CFPB and USAID
- Repeal of harmful tariffs and adherence to trade laws
- Halt construction and shut down all newly built immigration detention centers.
IOC is requesting signage aligned with these demands. MAGA controls every branch of federal government. If the federal government shuts down, it is MAGA’s responsibility, not the minority party. We urge Democratic Senators to stand up and use their voice to lead this fight.

Economic Power – Boycott T-Mobile
Where we choose to spend our money is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make is an opportunity to support companies and products that align with our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
We believe in the right of all human beings to live in a safe environment with fair access to opportunity within an inclusive economy. Each week we will highlight one company or product that does NOT align with our shared values and ideals.

Tell Your Democratic Senator(s) to Make Sure Schumer Doesn’t Hand Trump a Blank Check
Federal government funding runs out on September 30—and Republicans need Democratic votes to clear the filibuster and avoid a government shutdown. Democrats have a strong hand to play. They must use it to deny Donald Trump the blank check Republicans want to hand him!
But in the last big funding fight, Chuck Schumer and a handful of other Dems surrendered—rolling over and letting Trump weaponize federal funds to rob our services, militarize our cities, and terrorize our communities. That cannot happen again.
Remind your Democratic senators we cannot hand blank checks to a wannabe king—and ask them to keep publicly pressuring Schumer to FIGHT LIKE HELL!
Write to your Democratic Senators TODAY!
Republicans need to know they will OWN the Trump Shutdown if they refuse to work on a bipartisan funding agreement. They control both the House and the Senate, so it’s on them to keep the government open.
Write to your Republican Senators NOW!
One key point: This rollout will include a $45-$76 billion cut to medicare in 2026, and $491 billion cut by 2034 due to the trigger on Trump adding to the deficit. The deficit trigger is tied to the Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act (PAYGO), which mandates automatic spending cuts if new legislation increases the federal deficit and Congress doesn’t waive the rule.

Send a letter to New York’s Energy Research and Development Authority to support the Tonawanda Seneca and Tuscarora Nations in demanding key protections for their lands, lifeways, and sovereignty.
Today, New York is poised to invest in slow, costly, and dangerous nuclear energy while building out toxic industrial infrastructure that threatens Native lands and lifeways. We need you to send a letter to New York’s Energy Research and Development Authority to support the Tonawanda Seneca and Tuscarora Nations in calling for environmental justice in the New York State Energy Plan.
The Nations are pushing back on big tech, the nuclear industry, and profit-driven economic development that comes at the expense of the land and future generations. Submit a letter today to say:
* No more nuclear energy.
* No more public dollars for private data centers.
* No more sacrificing Indigenous lands for corporate profits.

Letters to the Editor
CNY Solidarity Coalition encourages letters to the editor regarding issues affecting us locally and nationwide. We also recommend that letters are written in response to recent articles or other letters; these are more likely to get published. Links to these articles will be included each week.
If you’re looking for a subject to write about, here are this week’s suggestions:
Guidelines for writing Letters to the Editor, with a link to previously submitted letters, can be found on our website.
If you’ve written a Letter to the Editor, whether it’s been published or not, consider forwarding a copy to cnysolnews@gmail.com, so that it can be added to our website’s “Opinion” section.

The State of Poverty
Fresh poverty data confirms what millions already know: nearly half the country is poor or low income. That’s 140 million people—families one car breakdown or ER visit away from falling into crisis. The burden falls heaviest on children and communities of color, but the majority of the poor are white, working-age adults.
And the crisis is about to get worse. The new “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” rips away food, housing, and health care for millions while enriching corporations and the ultra-rich. As the ground shifts beneath us, the call grows louder: fight poverty, not the poor.

ASAN Condemns Administration’s Rampant Misinformation about Autism, Acetaminophen, and Vaccines
On September 22nd, President Trump, RFK, and other members of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) leadership held a press conference that contained false and harmful information about autism, acetaminophen, and vaccines. The Autism Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) states that “ASAN knows that autism is not a bad thing. Autistic people can have amazing lives. Autistic people do not need a cure for autism. We need supports that help us succeed. We need to be able to choose the services we get. We need resources that help us. We need resources that help the people who support us, like our families. The government should focus on actually helping autistic people. The government should not focus on getting rid of autism.”

Nonviolent Direct Action Training
Sundays, October 5 & 12, 3-6pm
Zoom Event
We are living in a time that most of us never imagined. A time when the democratic state, flawed as it is, is coming apart. Those responsible are working to impose a new order rooted in white, male, Christian supremacy. To secure this dystopian order, state violence and the silencing of dissent is on the rise, threatening any opposition to the fascist regime. The Fellowship of Reconciliation invites you to join us for a 2-part gathering to discuss theoretical and practical applications of nonviolent direct action as the best way to respond to authoritarianism and the repressive use of state power. The gatherings are free to all friends and allies. Our amazing trainers are Lisa Fithian with the Alliance of Community Trainers (ACT) and Mary Link, NVDA Trainer Western MASS Team.

Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here, in Ithaca and elsewhere. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for.
A handful of us stand at busy intersections, for 45 minutes at rush hour, pivoting to the traffic with hand-held signs. We want to get the public thinking about issues often underrepresented in the media. We’re there weekly in almost all of Syracuse’s weather (we seldom cancel). Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!) Our Team: Ann, Dick, Ed, Geoff, Jim, Julienne, Les, Leslie, Peter….
