-
Your First Amendment rights – freedom of speech, association and assembly; freedom of the press, and freedom of religion.

Your right to equal protection under the law – equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.
-
Your right to due process – fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.
-
Your right to privacy – freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.
We work also to extend rights to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied rights, including people of color; LGBTQ people; women; people experiencing mental illness; incarcerated New Yorkers; people with disabilities; and the poor.

Women and War: History of US Militarism and Camptowns in South KoreaMonday, January 26, 2026, 8 pm Zoom event sponsored by Peace Action NY State Studies have long shown that in war and militarism, women are disproportionately harmed and sustain severe human rights abuses. For decades in South Korea, military camptowns surrounding U.S. bases have been the site of harm and human rights abuses against Korean women. In 2022, the South Korean Supreme Court found that sex trafficking and illegal prostitution economies existed at U.S. military camptowns from at least 1957 to 2008, and held the Korean government liable for operating and encouraging such prostitution to sustain the South Korea-U.S. military alliance. Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here, in Ithaca and elsewhere. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for.
A handful of us stand at busy intersections, for 45 minutes at rush hour, pivoting to the traffic with hand-held signs. We want to get the public thinking about issues often underrepresented in the media. We’re there weekly in almost all of Syracuse’s weather (we seldom cancel). Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!) Our Team: Ann, Dick, Ed, Geoff, Jim, Julienne, Les, Leslie, Peter….
To learn more, call Ann or Ed: (315) 478 4571.
