Alert: Club AmericaAre you familiar with Turning Point USA ? Have you heard the name, “Charlie Kirk”? Are you aware clubs are being formed in our high schools funded by TPUSA? Some schools in our area already have established clubs. It’s possible you don’t share the values and beliefs this club promotes . Take a few minutes and view this video about the true nature of Club America provided by Defense of Democracy, an organization working state and nation wide to challenge the establishment of these clubs in our high schools. You’re likely in for a big surprise – maybe even a shock. Concerned as we are? Here’s how you can help. We are asking for a couple volunteers per school to fill out an information sheet on your high school; we’ll send you specifics. No worries – it’s all public information and you’ll probably get it right off your high school’s or district’s website. We’re just out of hands to do this piece of our project work. This is your chance to get involved. Will you help? Click here

Sloan Lecture: “Freedom For All: Civil Resistance and the fight against slavery in Antebellum Syracuse”
Wednesday, February 11, 12 pm
Virtual lecture
This presentation examines the work of a small but dedicated group of abolitionists in Syracuse, New York, led by Rev. Samuel May and Rev. Jermain Loguen. Loguen, a man who escaped his own enslavement in Tennessee and settled in Syracuse in 1841, became one of the era’s most successful and well-known Station Masters on the UGRR. These men and their compatriots helped make Syracuse a center for abolitionist activity and organization and were primary participants in of the era’s most significant acts of civil disobedience, the Jerry Rescue, in October 1851.

Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here, in Ithaca and elsewhere. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for.
A handful of us stand at busy intersections, for 45 minutes at rush hour, pivoting to the traffic with hand-held signs. We want to get the public thinking about issues often underrepresented in the media. We’re there weekly in almost all of Syracuse’s weather (we seldom cancel). Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!) Our Team: Ann, Dick, Ed, Geoff, Jim, Julienne, Les, Leslie, Peter….
To learn more, call Ann or Ed: (315) 478 4571.
