Alert: Club America Our last newsletter sharing about TurningPointUSA’s high school “Club America” clubs met with some requests to learn more. This article from “EducationWeek” shared an enlightening piece which might help to answer the question, “is this an outside sponsored club …what is their agenda with our kids?” And for those who might read the NY Times, you might find the article by Pooja Salhotra, “As Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point Pushes into High Schools, Dissension Follows”, dated January 7, 2026 helpful with that question as well. In that article, Salhotra reported “Josh Thifault, a senior director at Turning Point, spoke at the event in Tennessee’s State Capitol and laid out his vision: “I want to create a future where the leftist parents are scared that their kids are going to be a teenager,” he said, pausing for applause before continuing, “because that is when their Club America chapter is going to tell them about Jesus. That’s when their Club America chapter is going to tell them about the founding of the country.” Concerned as we are? Here’s how you can help: We are asking for a couple volunteers per school to fill out an information sheet on your high school; we’ll send you specifics. No worries – it’s all public information and you’ll probably get it right off your high school’s or district’s website. We’re just out of hands to do this piece of our project work. This is your chance to get involved. Will you help? And if you already have volunteered, don’t worry; we’ll be in touch soon! Click here

Neighbor-to-Neighbor OrganizingAs mentioned at Sunday’s CNY Solidarity meeting, we’re launching a new effort to encourage members to organize/network with their own immediate neighbors. If you’re interested in helping get this started, we’re holding a virtual meeting this Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2pm. (The meeting will be 30-60 min. and will not interfere with Super Bowl plans.) Here’s the Zoom link. For more info: thomas.m.keck@gmail.com

Keep the pressure on Congress: No funding for ICE!
A House vote to end the current government shutdown is possible this week, but will face Democratic opposition after a Senate vote to fund affected agencies and programs passed Friday, including a contentious DHS bill that would fund Trump administration’s ICE operations and ICE funding for two weeks.
The DHS funding bill can’t make it through Congress without Democratic votes. Our Senators and Representatives can’t vote to give Trump’s secret police more money to kill innocent people, terrorize our communities, and violate our rights. Demand that your Senators and Representatives vote later this week to rein in ICE and CBP death squads.

Change Your Party By Feb 14thPrimary elections are important. It is when voters decide which candidate should be on their party line in November. But turnout is low. In New York, you have to be registered in a party to be able to vote in primary elections. 30% of voters in Onondaga County are not enrolled in a party. If you want a say on who is on your ballot in November, you must change your registration by February 14th! In some areas, the primary is the election! Make sure you have a say! Economic Power –QuitGPT Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
More Information about QuitGPT Chatgpt is trump’s biggest donor, and ICE uses chatgpt. It’s time to quit. OpenAI president Greg Brockman and his wife donated $25 million to MAGA Inc in 2025 (and CEO Sam Altman donated $1M to Trump’s 2025 Inaugural Fund). They gave Trump 26x more than any other major AI company. ICE’s resume screening tool is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4. They’re spending 50 million dollars to prevent states from regulating AI so only Trump can. They’re cozying up to Trump while ICE is killing Americans and the Department of Justice is trying to take over elections. ChatGPT enables mental-health crises through sycophancy and dependence by replacing human relationships with AI girlfriends/boyfriends. Many employees have quit OpenAI because of its leadership’s lies, deception and recklessness.

Syracuse Street Heat
Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for. Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!)
EVERY FRIDAY from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.
Focused on the war in the middle East…Israel’s military genocide of Gaza and invasion of Lebanon. We disperse along the sidewalk with our signs at the very busy intersection of Erie Blvd East and East Genesee St. (across from the DeWitt fire station; park in the nearby mini mall lot.) When the temperature is below 20 degrees, we cancel! Learn more on Syracuse Peace Council’s website.
