Tell NY Representatives We Will Not Go Backwards! A new bill (S4117B/A2074C) proposes to limit public access to police disciplinary records. Assemblyman Al Stirpe & Senator Chris Ryan are co-sponsors of this bill that would limit public access to certain kinds of law enforcement disciplinary records. The bill would unwind one of the police reforms enacted in New York after the 2020 murder of George Floyd in Minnesota that led to mass protests. The bill would change the law so that many complaints against officers would never become public. Even after the 2020 law to make these records available through FOIL, police departments delay or deny releasing these records.
Don’t turn back the clock on police discipline transparency in NY (Editorial Board Opinion)
Contact Assemblyman Stirpe and Senator Ryan and tell them we will not go backwards on police transparency! Senator Ryan: (315) 428-7632 | chrisryan@nysenate.gov Assemblyman Stirpe: (315) 452-1115 | StirpeA@nyassembly.gov

Tell the Senate to Vote ‘No’ on the SAVE Act! The House approved the latest version of the SAVE Act last week, a horrible voter-suppression bill that would require a passport or an original birth certificate to register to vote. Considering that 21 million American citizens don’t have immediate access to either of those documents, the SAVE Act is incredibly dangerous to our right to be heard at the ballot box. The SAVE Act is being considered by the Senate, but Democrats can still stop it if they stay united in opposition. If the Democrats filibuster the Act, 60 votes will be needed to advance the bill. Tell your Senator to Stop the SAVE Act!

Economic Power – Boycott Enterprise Car Rental Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection. More Information about Enterprise Car Rental Enterprise Mobility, which owns Enterprise Rent-A-Car, is renting cars to ICE to carry out their raids in communities across the country. Even the murder of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis did not persuade Enterprise to stop doing business with this reckless and violent agency. Syracuse Street Heat
Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for. Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!)
EVERY FRIDAY from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.
Focused on the war in the middle East…Israel’s military genocide of Gaza and invasion of Lebanon. We disperse along the sidewalk with our signs at the very busy intersection of Erie Blvd East and East Genesee St. (across from the DeWitt fire station; park in the nearby mini mall lot.) When the temperature is below 20 degrees, we cancel! Learn more on Syracuse Peace Council’s website.
