A Special Message from our Protest Committee: We hope you’re all doing your best to stay well and steady in these unsettling times. We’re writing with a message about dealing with counter-protestors. We have the First Amendment right of peaceful assembly free of threat or intimidation. We value a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and family-friendly atmosphere when we assemble to celebrate our Constitution.
Sadly, some of our neighbors do not value the First Amendment as we do and will approach us with taunts and hostility. Do NOT take the bait. Do not engage. Ignore them. It denies them the attention that they want.
Our power does not come from escalating with those who seek to disrupt our celebration of our Constitution. Our collective power comes from adherence to truth and morality, from the care of our neighbors, and from our discipline and dedication in saving our democracy. Stay focused on our goals. Take comfort knowing that all of our actions are in alignment our Constitution.
If you ever feel threatened by counter-protestors, don’t hesitate to call the police. In the words of Dr. King, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”.

New York State Budget: ‼️URGENT ACTION: Restore the full $102.5 million in spending authority for IOLA in the one house budget bills and in the final budget. The 2027 NYS Executive Budget included $77.5 million, nearly 25% less in spending authority than needed by the Interest on Lawyer’s Account (IOLA) to fund the second year of five-year contracts, and the Justice Infrastructure Project. The Governor’s 30-Day Amendments failed to address the shortfall. This significant shortfall will lead to substantial cuts, meaning loss of jobs, fewer services for our communities, and more Please help encourage Governor Hochul and key legislative leaders to restore the full $102.5 million in spending authority for IOLA in the one house budget bills and in the final budget.

Tell the Senate to Vote ‘No’ on the SAVE Act! The House approved the latest version of the SAVE Act last month, a horrible voter-suppression bill that would require a passport or an original birth certificate to register to vote. Considering that 21 million American citizens don’t have immediate access to either of those documents, the SAVE Act is incredibly dangerous to our right to be heard at the ballot box. The SAVE Act is being considered by the Senate, but Democrats can still stop it if they stay united in opposition. If the Democrats filibuster the Act, 60 votes will be needed to advance the bill. Tell your Senator to Stop the SAVE Act!

Economic Power – Boycott FedEx Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
Public contracting documentation and government procurement guidance show FedEx as an awardee under the federal government’s Next Generation Delivery Service (NGDS) small-package delivery contract program. NGDS documentation identifies FedEx as an awarded transportation service provider and states that executive federal agencies and their affiliated sub-agencies are authorized users of NGDS, enabling DHS components (including ICE) to procure small-package delivery services through this vehicle. Syracuse Street Heat
Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for. Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!)
EVERY FRIDAY from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.
Focused on the war in the middle East…Israel’s military genocide of Gaza and invasion of Lebanon. We disperse along the sidewalk with our signs at the very busy intersection of Erie Blvd East and East Genesee St. (across from the DeWitt fire station; park in the nearby mini mall lot.) When the temperature is below 20 degrees, we cancel! Learn more on Syracuse Peace Council’s website.
