Economic Power Special – Fundraiser to Benefit Food Bank of CNY
Imagine suddenly facing the choice of buying food, paying the rent or keeping the heat on. One in seven households in NY are facing this financial cliff.
As of November 1, federal government funding for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) has been withheld or severely delayed, creating uncertainty for many of our neighbors who are living with food insecurity.
By the time you read this, the courts may have forced the Department of Agriculture to release the emergency funding for SNAP. But as we know, this fund was not adequate for even one full month of funding nationwide, and the urgent need for food support will remain.
We’re reaching out to all CNY Solidarity Coalition members, supporters, allies and friends who are lucky enough to not be experiencing food insecurity. Whatever your level of relative abundance, please dig deep and give generously so that we can provide critical funding to the Food Bank of CNY. 100% of funds raised through this effort will go to the Food Bank of CNY.
$10,070 has already been raised, which is halfway to our goal!

Defend New York’s Climate Laws
Here are several actions you can take to defend and improve our state’s climate:
-
Go to the Alliance for a Green Economy linktree and fill out the form for the Tell Gov. Hochul: Sign the 100-Foot Rule Repeal (A8888) button. The postcard urges Governor Hochul to sign the bill (which has a projected NYS annual gas customer savings of $177 million) into law. Please share the postcard link with your family and friends! We are collecting signatures through December 10 and will deliver the paper postcards and a list of online signatories to the Governor in Albany on December 11. If you would like paper postcards brought/sent to you or picked up, please email Andra at andra@agreeny.org.
-
Stand up and be vocal in support of NY’s climate laws; Governor Hochul and her administration are definitely not immune to pressure from the Federal administration. We hope that 100s of people from across the state will join us on December 11 when we travel to Albany to ask that Governor Hochul not delay the All-Electric Buildings Act and sign the 100-Foot Rule Repeal.
-
Catch up on many ways we can work together to defend our climate laws by attending the virtual Power Hour hosted by the Renewable Heat Now campaign at 7pm on November 13. Register for the 11/13 Power Hour here . Hope to see you there!

Syracuse DSA Crowdfunded Food Aid Appeal
This initiative is specifically geared towards doing something outside of the Food Pantry/Food Bank system. The governor has put $41M worth of extra funding into work to help with this SNAP funding crisis. The money will likely go to food pantries and other already governmentally established aid efforts which are only open certain hours and certain days and only provide specific nutrition (as per Food Bank/USDA guidelines) without taking special dietary needs into consideration. The DSA initiative approach is to get money directly into the hands of people who may have nutritional needs that cannot be met by the Food Bank or may not have access to the Food Bank resources. It’s complementary to the CNY Solidarity Coalition effort.

This Armistice Day, take a stand against militarism and ‘warrior culture’
This Armistice Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, the Syracuse Chapter of Veterans for Peace (VFP) and the Beyond War and Militarism Committee (BW&M), a joint committee of the Syracuse Peace Council and the CNY Solidarity Coalition, call upon all to join us at First Unitarian Universalist Society, 109 Waring Road, from 10:30 to noon to Reclaim Armistice Day. Once again, Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh, as he has done for the past seven years, has issued a proclamation declaring the 11th day of November 2025 to be Armistice Day for Peace in the City of Syracuse.

Opening Reception. Reclaiming Our Collective Inheritance: A Palestinian Diaspora Collection
Saturday, November 15, 6-8pm
ArtRage Gallery, 505 Hawley Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13203
The Palestinian thobe is more than an embroidered garment—it is a living archive. For Palestinians in the diaspora, these intricately stitched dresses are tangible connections to a homeland many have never seen, yet fiercely carry within them. Each motif tells a story—of identity, ancestral village, and unbroken resilience. Tragically, many thobes have been lost to time, war, and dispossession.
This exhibit, Reclaiming Our Collective Inheritance, is both a memorial and a call to action: to rescue, preserve, remember, and honor the hands that embroidered them.

“The Librarians”
Sunday, November 16th, 1:00pm
Tuesday, November 18th, 7:00pm
Manlius Cinema, 135 East Seneca St, Manlius, NY
In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of White Christian Nationalism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.

The November 17 convening will provide a space to learn from experts, generate solutions, and form practical partnerships among participants.

Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here, in Ithaca and elsewhere. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for.
A handful of us stand at busy intersections, for 45 minutes at rush hour, pivoting to the traffic with hand-held signs. We want to get the public thinking about issues often underrepresented in the media. We’re there weekly in almost all of Syracuse’s weather (we seldom cancel). Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!) Our Team: Ann, Dick, Ed, Geoff, Jim, Julienne, Les, Leslie, Peter….
To learn more, call Ann or Ed: (315) 478 4571.
