CNY Solidarity & Indivisible Onondaga County Democracy in action. That is what we saw Sunday as community members gathered to learn and share concerns about whether Club America, the high school club created by TurningPointUSA, meets the criteria established for extracurricular clubs and functions in accordance with state and federal educational laws. Our panel discussion included a representative from Defense Of Democracy, who described some of the tactics being used by Club America nationwide, and answered several questions from attendees. Our Outreach Committee also provided several articles in this Linktree. The meeting is also mentioned in this article. Video from our meeting will be in a future newsletter.
CNY Solidarity & IOC Upcoming Meeting Schedule: March 22 | April 12

Day of Action: Hochul: Defend NY-Fund our future! Tuesday, March 10, 07:30 AM – 05:00 PM NYS Capitol – State St/Washington Ave Albany (Bus from Destiny Mall) On March 10th, New Yorkers from every corner of the state will converge on Albany to demand accountability from Governor Kathy Hochul. As our communities face overlapping crises, sky-high costs for rent, food, and childcare; new fossil fuel pipelines pushed while our climate law is ignored; and neighbors abducted and disappeared by ICE, all while the federal government cuts essential services, this Governor continues to prioritize big corporations and the status quo over working people. We are done being told to accept scarcity while corporations profit and our communities suffer. This moment calls for unity. Climate, housing, immigrant, health, and economic justice movements are coming together to show Albany what collective power looks like. We are standing as one to demand a New York that is sustainable, affordable, and safe for all. Buses will be traveling from multiple regions Register Here for a local bus

Tell NY Representatives We Will Not Go Backwards! A new bill (S4117B/A2074C) proposes to limit public access to police disciplinary records. Assemblyman Al Stirpe & Senator Chris Ryan are co-sponsors of this bill that would limit public access to certain kinds of law enforcement disciplinary records. The bill would unwind one of the police reforms enacted in New York after the 2020 murder of George Floyd in Minnesota that led to mass protests. The bill would change the law so that many complaints against officers would never become public. Even after the 2020 law to make these records available through FOIL, police departments delay or deny releasing these records.
Don’t turn back the clock on police discipline transparency in NY (Editorial Board Opinion)
Contact Assemblyman Stirpe and Senator Ryan and tell them we will not go backwards on police transparency! Senator Ryan: (315) 428-7632 | chrisryan@nysenate.gov Assemblyman Stirpe: (315) 452-1115 | StirpeA@nyassembly.gov

Tell the Senate to Vote ‘No’ on the SAVE Act! The House approved the latest version of the SAVE Act last month, a horrible voter-suppression bill that would require a passport or an original birth certificate to register to vote. Considering that 21 million American citizens don’t have immediate access to either of those documents, the SAVE Act is incredibly dangerous to our right to be heard at the ballot box. The SAVE Act is being considered by the Senate, but Democrats can still stop it if they stay united in opposition. If the Democrats filibuster the Act, 60 votes will be needed to advance the bill. Tell your Senator to Stop the SAVE Act!

Economic Power – Boycott FedEx Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
Public contracting documentation and government procurement guidance show FedEx as an awardee under the federal government’s Next Generation Delivery Service (NGDS) small-package delivery contract program. NGDS documentation identifies FedEx as an awarded transportation service provider and states that executive federal agencies and their affiliated sub-agencies are authorized users of NGDS, enabling DHS components (including ICE) to procure small-package delivery services through this vehicle. Syracuse Street Heat
Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for. Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!)
EVERY FRIDAY from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.
Focused on the war in the middle East…Israel’s military genocide of Gaza and invasion of Lebanon. We disperse along the sidewalk with our signs at the very busy intersection of Erie Blvd East and East Genesee St. (across from the DeWitt fire station; park in the nearby mini mall lot.) When the temperature is below 20 degrees, we cancel! Learn more on Syracuse Peace Council’s website.
