A core intention of CNY Solidarity Coalition is to bring together and support organizations already out there helping directly affected communities in the Central New York area. Each week we’ll spotlight one of the over 100 organizations in our Directory; there’s a LOT going on!
Syracuse Peace Council
The Syracuse Peace Council (SPC), founded in 1936, is an antiwar/social justice organization. We are community-based, autonomous and funded by the contributions of our supporters. SPC educates, agitates and organizes for a world where war, violence and exploitation in any form will no longer exist. We challenge the existing unjust power relationships among nations, among people and between ourselves and the environment.

The Crisis of Mass Dehumanization with Aly Wane Friday, March 20, 07:00 PM – 08:00 PM Zoom Lecture Aly Wane will deliver the Promoting Enduring Peace’s Shafer Lecture. What we are witnessing now is an echo of the Fugitive Slave Act days, with bounty hunter teams made up of Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and other Far Right group members being deployed in addition to ICE and CBP to hunt and terrorize immigrants, regardless of legal status. The messaging coming from the Department of Homeland Security has turned openly White Supremacist in nature, indicating that this has more to do with race than citizenship status. Register here

Defend Climate Law – Bus Trip To Albany Wednesday, March 25, 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM Bus from Destiny USA in Syracuse On Wednesday, March 25, we’re mobilizing in Albany to urge lawmakers to defend our Climate Law! Governor Hochul is threatening to weaken New York’s landmark Climate Law through the state budget due April 1. We’ll be in Albany during final negotiations, urging our lawmakers to stand firm: NO CLIMATE LAW ROLLBACKS in the BUDGET! We can’t afford any more delays—New Yorkers need lower utility bills and real climate solutions. A more affordable, healthier, and climate-resilient New York is within reach, but only if we end our reliance on costly, polluting fossil fuels. Reserve a seat on a bus leaving near you.

Movie screening: “Lyd” Wednesday, March 25, 06:00 PM – 07:30 PM Syracuse Peace Council, 2013 E Genesee St, Syracuse The story of Lyd is the story of Palestine. This sci-fi documentary follows the rise and fall of Lyd – a 5,000-year-old metropolis that was once a bustling Palestinian town until it was conquered when the State of Israel was established in 1948. The film is an exploration of what it once was, and what it is now, in the context of the continuing conflicts and the war in Gaza. Lyd’s excavation of one community’s complex history offers us not only lessons but possible futures. As the film unfolds, a chorus of characters creates a tapestry of the Palestinian experience of this city and the trauma left by the massacre and expulsion, while vivid animations envision an alternate reality where the same characters live free from the trauma of the past and the violence of the present. Event is free and open to the public. More Information
