CNY Solidarity & Indvisible Onondaga County
|
Thank you everyone for showing up to say No Kings 3 in America this past weekend! Our community came together, over 8,000 strong and rose up against this administration to protest the war against Iran, immigration raids and the continued suppression of the Epstein files.
We DEDICATE this week’s newsletter to our amazing Minneapolis brothers and sisters, TRUE community activists all, who directly confronted ICE and together tried to protect the vulnerable, in a most challenging atmosphere.
Send us your photos! Use hashtag #NoKingsSyr Tag us on social media @cnysolidarity @indivisibleononcty on Facebook & BlueSky @cnysolidaritycoalition on Instagram.

Protect Our Water from Forever Chemicals! Chip manufacturers have been dumping forever chemicals into rivers for decades. They knew. They lobbied against research into it. They fought disclosure requirements. Micron alone spent $19.6 million lobbying Washington in the first half of 2022.
The only way to stop PFAS from reaching our water is a treatment plant specifically designed to destroy them. Micron’s treatment plant hasn’t been built yet. The contract hasn’t been signed yet. Once it is, the design is locked. No retrofit. No do-over. The county needs to hear from you before that happens.

URGENT: New York Must Reject Qualified Immunity and Pass S176/A1402 Governor Kathy Hochul has put forth proposals in Section M of her budget and Program Bill #20 that would, for the first time in the state’s history, enshrine qualified immunity into New York State law. Qualified immunity is a judge-made rule that protects public officials, including law enforcement officers, from being sued, even when they violate people’s rights. Enshrining qualified immunity into law would move our state backward — shielding misconduct and denying justice to those whose constitutional rights have been violated. Call (332) 244-3311 and urge Governor Hochul, Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins, and Assembly Speaker Heastie to amend any proposal that codifies qualified immunity and to pass S176/A1402 this session.

Tell Congress: Vote NO on additional funding for Trump’s war on Iran! The Pentagon is preparing to request that Congress approve a supplemental funding package of at least $50 billion (we’re even hearing possibly over $100 billion!) to help finance Trump’s illegal, unpopular war on Iran. This comes after Pentagon officials told senators last week that only the first six days of the war cost $11.3 billion. To date, it is estimated that the U.S. hasalready spent nearly $15 billion on this war.
Worryingly, Democrats who have said they oppose this war are now open to voting Yes on supplemental funding. The reasoning sounds sensible to some people: We’re already in it, so we have to make sure the troops are funded, and we can use the money as leverage to force Trump to spell out his goals. Neither Chuck Schumer nor Hakeem Jeffries — the top Democrats in the Senate and House — has clearly promised to vote No.
Please take a moment now to send a message to your Members of Congress urging them to vote NO on any supplemental funding for Trump’s war on Iran!

Syracuse Street Heat
Syracuse Street Heat is just one, very unencumbered way to work for peace and social justice. We’re part of a decades-long grassroots tradition here. We stand out and stand up for what we stand for. Bring your own sign – or use one of ours. No meetings or committees, so participation time is minimal (yay!)
EVERY FRIDAY from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m.
Focused on the war in the middle East…Israel’s military genocide of Gaza and invasion of Lebanon. We disperse along the sidewalk with our signs at the very busy intersection of Erie Blvd East and East Genesee St. (across from the DeWitt fire station; park in the nearby mini mall lot.) When the temperature is below 20 degrees, we cancel! Learn more on Syracuse Peace Council’s website.
