Demand Hearings on White Supremacist Terrorism
Call John Katko and ask him to have the Homeland Security Committee on which he sits hold hearings on White Supremacist terrorism. Also write letters to the editor asking for this action. In the years since 9/11, white nationalists have caused more violent deaths than Islamic terrorists in the United States. Katko’s numbers are 315-423-5657 (Syracuse), 315-253-4068 (Auburn), and 202-225-3701 (DC).

Wednesday (August 23)

Syracuse Campaign for New York Health Organizing Meeting
5:30pm – 7pm (right before the CNY Solidarity mtg @ All Saints) This meeting is a great chance for anyone who has been looking to help promote single payer healthcare in NY to get involved.  We are hoping many new members will attend as well as all current volunteers if possible to make planning for the coming months more efficient.  At this meeting, we’ll go over specific upcoming events and opportunities for outreach and organizing in our community — like at the State Fair, through door to door canvassing, and through outreach to business owners and doctors.  We will go over the various ongoing volunteer roles (like data entry) and a more formal structure for our local campaign organizing committee. If you are not familiar with the New York Health Act, check out this short animation (http://www.nyhcampaign.org/piisd) or a longer video featuring Dr. Gerald Friedman about how the New York Health Act would be funded (http://www.nyhcampaign.org/study).  Hope to see you next Wednesday @ 5:30.

The Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse as well as other organizations will also be participating.

The evening will start with a brief panel presentation involving several local activists followed by some large group discussion and then breakout groups to discuss action ideas.

Call Senator Schumer to Join Senator Gillibrand in Opposing the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC), which Thwarts Progressive Legislation in the New York Legislature.

On Wednesday, August 23, Indivisible groups across New York are planning a phone relay (similar to the one that took place earlier this month to pressure Governor Cuomo into taking action on disbanding the IDC) to demand that Senator Schumer come out against the IDC just as Senator Gillibrand has done. NY State must strongly oppose the current federal administration’s policies. To do so requires a true democratic majority in the State Senate.

Sign up to call Schumer at a specific time on this sitehttp://tinyurl.com/IDC-CallRelayHumpday You can find a script and Schumer’s office numbers there

Background on the IDC is here:
