CNY Solidarity members and supporters:
Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24 and our legislative action teams. The New York State primary election is 31 days away, and the general election is 85 days away. Please mark your calendars (Sept. 13 and Nov. 6), confirm your voter registration, and make sure your friends and family are all registered too. Indivisible’s online voter registration tool is available here.
Highlights this week include not one but two Pres. Trump appearances in Central New York TODAY—one in Watertown, the other in Utica, both featuring epic protests organized by our friends and allies across the region. Carpool details below.
Today (Aug 13)
Donald Trump is coming to Central New York TODAY!
Today, Donald Trump is appearing at Ft. Drum with Rep. Stefanik to sign a defense appropriations bill, then hosting a $15,000/plate fundraiser with Rep. Tenney in Utica. Our friends at 1199 SEIU, Indivisible Mohawk Valley, CNY Citizen Action, Syracuse Peace Council, and others are organizing protests in Watertown and Utica, and carpools will be leaving from Syracuse for both.
Resist Trump & Stefanik (Watertown)
11:00 am at 101 Public Square, Watertown 13601. More details here.
Carpool from Syracuse will meet at 9am at the University United Methodist Church parking lot (University Ave. and Ashworth Pl., Syracuse).
Resist Trump & Tenney Protest (Utica)
4:00 pm at 207 Genesee St. (State Office Building), Utica 13501. (Note the new location.) People should park to the south or east of that address, at least 5 blocks away. When driving within Utica the Noyes St. exit from Rte. 12 will probably be best. More details here. Carpool from Syracuse will meet at Price Chopper parking lot on Midler Ave. (just off Erie Blvd) at 2:15pm. Enter the parking lot, turn left, and head to the far corner to meet up.
Trump and the Constitution
Indivisible Cayuga is hosting a talk by Tom Keck (me!) on Trump and the Constitution. 6:30-8:30 pm at Phoenix Building, 2 South St. in Auburn. More details here.
Syracuse Lead Prevention Coalition Meeting
From our friends with Uplift Syracuse. 6-7:30pm at 500 W. Genesee St in Syracuse. More details here.
SPAARC Meeting Cancelled
Due to a series of competing events tonight, the Syracuse Police Accountability and Reform Coalition will not meet tonight.
Tuesday (Aug 14)
Support the Community Grid (in less than 30 seconds!)
CNY Business Journal is running an unscientific survey on support for the community grid option to replace I-81 (which CNY Solidarity endorsed last year). Click here to complete the one-question survey.
Wednesday (Aug 15)
CNY Solidarity Coalition meeting
7-8:30pm, Park Central Presbyterian Church, 504 E. Fayette St. in Syracuse. More details here.
Thursday (Aug 16)
Demand open public forums from incumbents seeking reelection
From our state legislative action team: If you live in SD-53 (map here), please call state Sen. David Valesky’s office at 315-478-8745 to urge him to schedule open public forums with his Democratic primary opponent Rachel May.
Friday (Aug 17)
No formal actions today, but if you’re supporting candidates in the Sept. 13 and/or Nov. 6 elections, we encourage you to reach out via their websites or FB pages and see what volunteer opportunities they have available. The key to these elections will be a) grassroots, volunteer, direct voter contact efforts (i.e., canvassing and phone-banking); and b) recurring, small-dollar donations from thousands of supporters. If anyone needs help making connections with any local campaigns, reply to me and I’ll get you started.
Saturday (Aug 18)
Skaneateles Town Hall
NY-24 candidate Dana Balter is holding a town hall. 11:00-12:30 at Skaneateles Creamery, 28 Hannum St., Skaneateles 13152. More details here.
Sunday (Aug 19)
