Court Support for Laila Eadie

Wednesday January 2nd 10 AM – 12 PM · 505 S State St 3rd floor, Syracuse

Court support is needed for Laila Eadie on Wednesday January 2 at 10am. On the advice of her immigration attorney they want to keep things low key so inside support only at this time. Just bring yourselves and show Laila and her family that they are not alone. The length of time until her case is heard before the judge varies so plan on being there at least 2 hours.

Laila Eadie was detained by ICE at the Syracuse office on August 2, 2018 during her monthly check in after being told by the ICE agent working her case to come in on a different day and time than what was previously scheduled. She’s been held in Batavia since. Laila is 53 and came to the US from Venezuela in 1994 and has permanent resident status. She owns her own home in Syracuse, has 5 children, 3 of whom live in the US, 2 grandchildren and has been working steadily for the past few years. She takes great pride in helping raise her 2 grandchildren. ICE detained her on an outdated, closed prior conviction. Since that time she has retained both an immigration attorney and a criminal defense attorney in an attempt to get the conviction cleared from her record, which the DA has agreed to do, the paperwork just needed to be signed by a judge.

Day 1: Let’s fix our Democracy! Rally

Thursday January 3rd 12:30 PM – 1 PM · 440 S Warren St, Syracuse

January 3rd is Day 1 of the new Congress! And we are showing up to make sure John does his job this session because 47% of his constituents did not vote for him in 2018. And it is his job to represent ALL of us in this new Congress! We will continue to hold him accountable. He pushed his so called “bipartisan” message to voters and now is the time to call on him to be bipartisan because Democrats now control the House.

We expect the first major legislative effort in a Democratically-controlled House to be a democracy reform effort (H.R. 1). This legislation is expected to strengthen everyone’s right to vote and to have their vote count, to stem the tide of big money in politics, and to root out corruption at all levels of government—including the White House.

We are calling on John to support H.R. 1 to help fix our democracy! Join us on Thursday, January 3rd, 2019 at 12:30 to celebrate a New Year and a New Congress! It’s time to fix our Democracy!
Make sure to bundle up, we will be outside.
Can’t make it? Call his office at (315) 423-5657 or (202) 225-3701 to tell John that you support H.R. 1.

Now is the time! Hope to see you on Saturday.

Clare Grady: Kings Bay Plowshares Activist

Sunday January 6th 1:30 PM – 3 PM  · All Saints Church 1340 Lancaster Ave, Syr

Clare is one of seven Catholic plowshares activists who entered Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base in St. Mary’s, Georgia on April 4th, 2018, aiming to make real the prophet Isaiah’s command to “beat swords into plowshares” by attempting to convert weapons of mass destruction. Kings Bay Naval Base is the largest nuclear submarine base in the world. The seven activists hope to call attention to the ways in which nuclear weapons kill every day, by their mere existence and maintenance. They are facing up to 25 years in federal prison. Clare, a longtime Ithaca Catholic worker, will be speaking about the action and the upcoming federal trial. Clare and most of her co-defendants have also been arrested at Hancock Air Base in Syracuse protesting killer drones.

Free and open to the public. All Saints Church is an accessible venue.
Sponsored by All Saints Catholic Church, Beyond War and Militarism (a joint committee of the Syracuse Peace Council and CNY Solidarity Coalition), and SPC’s Nuclear Free World committee.

Light refreshments, bus vouchers, and childcare provided by Parent University.
*Register with Syracuse City School District’s Parent University to attend.*
WHY ACES, TRAUMA, & RESILIENCE?
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) cause trauma that affects health and education. Trauma shows up as behavior in and out of the classroom. By using ACEs to identify sources of trauma we build resilient students and families leading to academic success.

Resilient CNY is a collaboration between Sanchia A Callender Inc, Art Music People, and NeuroDiversity Consulting, raising awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the impact of trauma across Central New York communities. We work to bring a trauma sensitive approach to all areas of our communities building a stronger more vibrant Central New York.
