CNY Solidarity members and supporters:
This week as we approach the deadline for NYS Annual Budget adoption, we are focusing on New York State initiatives. We encourage actions for Invest in Our New York (IONY), the NYS Health Act, and legislation to restore voting rights to formerly incarcerated New Yorkers.
On the federal side we also have a webinar with Senator Schumer on the American Rescue Plan (3/16).
Please find below the weekly action alerts from Indivisible NY24.
Monday (March 15)
Invest in Our New York (IONY) phone calls to State Senate and Assembly leaders
One-house budget resolutions are essentially complete, and the process will be moving to the “three people in a room” stage. Time to move on from pressure on our legislators, to pressure on the leaders to stand firm in negotiations with the Governor. It appears that we have achieved significant progress in the one-house budgets: about $8 Billion in more progressive taxes on the wealthy. Not what we hoped for, but still significant. Call Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie
Stewart-Cousins: scousins@nysenate.gov, 518-455-2715
Heastie: Speaker@nyassembly.gov, 518-455-3791
Tuesday (March 16)
8-9 pm. Webinar with Sen. Schumer to talk more about the American Rescue Plan. Register here.
Wednesday (March 17)
Call, email, text your NYS Senators and Assembly members to pass the NYS Health Act here.
Thursday (March 17)
Restore voting rights of the formerly incarcerated. Write or otherwise contact your Assembly member to pass S830B /A4448A.
Outdated, racist voter suppression laws have no place in New York State. Passing S830B / A4448A is one of many steps the NYS Legislature can take towards racial justice in New York.S830B / A4448A would make restoring the voting rights of the formerly incarcerated automatic upon the completion of their prison term. It would eliminate the need for a discretionary pardon from the Governor’s office, as well as the complicated process of returning the right to vote to those pardoned. Most importantly, its passage would mean that formerly incarcerated New Yorkers would no longer be at the mercy of whoever occupies the Governor’s office to ensure their voting rights. The NY State Senate passed S830B; now the State Assembly needs to follow suit. Write your Assembly member here.

This is a low-volume list (typically no more than 4-6 messages per week), which now has more than 2,000 subscribers. We also maintain higher-volume listservs as venues for discussion of general Coalition-wide issues (discussion-cnysolidarity), key state and local action team organizing priorities (stateleg-cnysolidarity), and key Indivisible NY24 organizing priorities (IndivisibleNY24). The latter list includes more frequent action alerts and information about local electoral campaigns supported by Indivisible. If you’d like to be added to any of these lists, please reply to me and let me know which ones.
