CNY Solidarity members and supporters:
Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from Indivisible NY24.
Locally, we encourage everyone to check out the good work at Flip the Onondaga County Legislature. We’ve got multiple progressive candidates on the ballot this year, and they need our support.
Nationally, our main focus remains on democracy reform, including S. 1: For the People Act (a big package of voting rights, gerrymandering, campaign finance, and ethics reforms), H.R. 4: John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (which would restore provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Acts that have been gutted by Supreme Court), and H.R. 51: Washington, DC Admission Act, which passed the House last week. Passing these measures will likely require reform of Senate filibuster rules, and doing so is necessary to break the downward “doom loop” of democratic erosion.
Today (April 26)
End the Filibuster: Call voters in Arizona to urge them to get Senator Sinema to support reforming the Senate Filibuster rules. Phone banking here and more information on the filibuster is here.
Tuesday (April 27)
Support DC Statehood: Write a letter to the editor to support DC Statehood.Policy information is here and a list of local outlets is here.
Wednesday (April 28)
Sign up to Meet with Al Stirpe about the Climate Crisis: New York Renews plans to organize a zoom meeting with Al Stripe to secure Assemblyman Stirpe’s support for an effort to raise $1.5 billion from corporate polluters to fund the Climate and Community Investment Act. You’re receiving this email because you’re subscribed to the CNY Solidarity Coalition announcements list. This is a low-volume list (typically no more than 4-6 messages per week), which now has more than 2,000 subscribers. We also maintain higher-volume listservs as venues for discussion of general Coalition-wide issues (discussion-cnysolidarity), key state and local action team organizing priorities (stateleg-cnysolidarity), and key Indivisible NY24 organizing priorities (IndivisibleNY24). The latter list includes more frequent action alerts and information about local electoral campaigns supported by Indivisible. If you’d like to be added to any of these lists, please reply to me and let me know which ones.
