With Omicron, You Need A Mask That Means Business (repeated from last week)

Unlike cloth masks, N95, KN95 and KF94 respirators are all made out of material with an electrostatic charge, which “actually pulls these particles in as they’re floating around and prevents you from inhaling those particles,” Karan notes. “And that really is key” — because if you don’t inhale virus particles, they can’t multiply in your respiratory tract.

The material in surgical masks also has an electrostatic charge. But surgical masks tend to fit loosely…

Donations Needed for Farmworker Organizer Crispin Hernandez

Crispin has been active in the fight to address labor law violations at farms across the state. Crispin was also the main plaintiff in Hernandez v. State of New York. Crispin was key to getting the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act passed, signed by the Governor in July 2019. Crispin continues to advocate for similarly situated workers on a volunteer basis and also fights his immigration case. The money donated will go toward Crispin’s rent, healthcare, meals, and costs associated with Crispin’s community work.

A full speaker list – including elected leaders in CNY from the village, town, and city levels to state and federal office – is forthcoming. Please join us as we stand united for the rule of law and respect for our democratic institutions.

National Vigil to Mark 1 Year Since January 6th

January 6, 4:30 PM

James M. Hanley Federal Building

Link to event

Join this national action to underscore the threats facing our democracy. Call on the Senate and the President to protect democracy through passing the federal legislation, including the Freedom to Vote Act and the Protecting Our Democracy Act.

January 6, 2021 was a violent and deadly attack against all Americans – against our country, our democracy, and our freedom as voters to choose the leaders that represent us so that we have a government of, by, and for the people.

One year later, the same faction that attacked our country on January 6th is hard at work silencing our voices by restricting our freedom to vote, attacking fair voting districts, and quietly preparing future attempts to sabotage free and fair elections and with it our democracy.

So this January 6, exactly one year later, Americans across race, place, party, and background are holding candlelight vigils to say: In America, the voters decide the outcome of elections.

To prevent this kind of attack from happening again, our elected leaders must pass urgent legislation that will protect this country from anti-democratic forces who are continuing their efforts to destroy it.

Join us this Thursday for an outdoor socially distanced event. Dress warm, and please note that masks and social distancing are required. We’d also encourage attendees to consider taking a rapid test before joining.
