Celebrating a win! Our De-ICE campaign has been successful! CNY Solidarity joined a national efforts to pressure Citizens Bank to sever ties with private prisons that collude with ICE. We organized a month-long campaign including boycott, divestment, and four protests at Citizens Bank locations. Thank you to those who organized this effort and to all the activists who bravely stood up in solidarity for justice. There is much that requires our attention to save our democracy, so it’s important to acknowledge and celebrate our wins. Read more here and here

Please attend tonights’s Syracuse Citizen Review Board Monthly Meeting Tuesday, August 04, 05:30 PM – 06:30 PM Syracuse Common Council Chambers, City Hall, 233 East Washington St., Syracuse Please show up and speak in support of the CRB during the public comment section at tonight’s meeting! All nine voting councilors and Council President Rita Paniagua signed a letter delivered Monday to the Syracuse Citizen Review Board to start investigating police misconduct complaints again. That advice goes against Mayor Sharon Owens’ stance, based on the legal opinion of Corporation Counsel Sue Katzoff, that CRB needed to stop investigatory work because of a March mid-level appeals court decision involving the city of Rochester’s Police Accountability Board. Mayor Owens issued a written statement Monday that did not make clear how the administration will respond. She said because the common council has direct oversight over the CRB under city law, she does not have authority to direct the board what to do. Read more here, here and here

Join Neighbors For A Better Micron Neighbors For A Better Micron is an association of residents who are Micron’s close neighbors. They filed a lawsuit in January 2026 because, in the words of its president, “our local and state governments have yet to address a core question: Has the company done enough to guarantee us that the economic benefits of its “mega-fab” will outweigh a range of potential negative impacts? Becoming a member of this group means supporting their association’s general mission of encouraging Micron to be a good neighbor. It does not mean you’re part of any legal actions they take, and regardless of whether you choose to join as a member, you will not be personally liable for the lawsuit. There are many other ways to help accomplish our mission unrelated to the lawsuit, such as helping organize events, attending meetings, or conducting educational outreach. Tell the Public Service Commission: No New Nuclear in New York On June 11, Governor Hochul’s Public Service Commission kicked off a process to commit massive amounts of public money toward the construction of nuclear reactors in unspecified communities across upstate New York. State agencies have put forth an “options paper,” not asking whether New York should carry out this plan to build new nuclear reactors, but how they should go about it. Nuclear is the most expensive form of energy, and the public should not bear the costs of building new nuclear reactors when our existing nuclear fleet can’t even afford to operate without massive bailout subsidies from ratepayers. Submit a comment in Governor Hochul’s nuclear planning proceeding to say “no new nuclear in New York.” Comments are due August 10.

Sign up to be an election inspector On Election Day, the Onondaga County Board of Elections employs over two thousand people to work at schools, churches, and other facilities processing voters, to ensure that a fair election is conducted as perfectly as possible. It is a long day but it is very rewarding to know you have helped your community choose its leaders. As an Election Inspector you will be required to complete a 3.5 hour class on the processes and procedures related to being an inspector, followed by a mandatory written test. Persons who successfully complete the test will be paid an hourly rate and will be eligible to work an election. Class is an annual requirement. Classes are being held this month! Action Corps Summer Advocacy Training Wednesday, August 5, 08:00 PM – 09:30 PM Online event This summer, Action Corps is bringing together people across the country to build the people power needed to secure a permanent end to the war against Iran and strengthen Congress’s role in preventing unauthorized wars. Join them for a 6-week advocacy training series where you’ll learn practical organizing skills, take meaningful action together, and become part of a growing network of people working for peace and human rights. Participants who attend at least 4 of the 6 weekly sessions may be invited to become Action Corps organizers, with ongoing opportunities to: > Take coordinated action with advocates across the country > Connect with partner organizations and experienced organizers > Continue developing advocacy and leadership skills > Help build campaigns that save lives through changes in U.S. policy
