CNY Solidarity members and supporters:
Please find below the weekly ACTION ALERTS from our legislative action team.
Given the holiday this week, we’re going light on phone-calling actions, but we do need everyone’s help spreading the word about Rep. Katko’s (and Tenney’s) vote in favor of the #TrumpTaxScam last week, and urging progressives in states with Republican Senators to weigh in.
Monday (Nov 20)
Focus on spreading the word about the tax bill today, plus two education/training opportunities tonight
Spread the word about Katko’s vote for #TrumpTaxScam
Social media action
Rep. Katko’s vote last week for the GOP tax bill is a potential career-ending vote, but only if everyone in NY24 hears about it. Please help spread the word by posting today on Twitter, Facebook, and any other social media platforms that you use. There are lots of effective ways to do this, but one good option is to link to a local media piece about the vote, add some comments of your own, post it to your accounts, and tag others who might be interested (including CNY Solidarity and Indivisible NY24). You can find local coverage here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.
Phone-calling action
If you’re not a big social media user (or if you are, but you’ve still got more time today), here’s another option. The national Indivisible folks have re-launched their peer-to-peer calling tool that worked so well during the health care fight. Click here to get started. Once you sign in, you’ll be connected with progressive voters in Alaska, Arizona, and West Virginia, whose Senators have a chance to stop the horrible tax bill.
Civil Disobedience Training
Our friends at the Workers Center are holding a civil disobedience training tonight at 5pm (location TBA). For more info: nslade@workerscentercny.org

100% Renewables Now!
Our friends at NY Renews are organizing a statewide call-the-governor day today. Their goal is to have over 1,000 New Yorkers call Governor Cuomo and demand that in his 2018 State of the State address he commit to 100% renewables and to making corporate polluters pay for the damage they’re doing to our health and our climate. Click here to RSVP w/ NY Renews, and then call the Governor (518-474-8390).
Wednesday (Nov 22)
One more call to the Governor, then a holiday break
Let’s hear it for the Community Grid – Urge a deadline for decision
At our meeting with Syracuse Mayor-elect Ben Walsh last week, he said that one of the first things he spoke to Governor Cuomo about following the election was his (Walsh’s) strong support for the community grid option. Let’s follow up with calls to Governor Cuomo’s office today (between 9-5) at 1-518-474-8390 and ask for a deadline for NYS DOT to make a final decision on replacing I-81 by the end of 2017. The issue has been studied for years; it’s now time for a decision.
