Make a Call for Earth Day Governor Hochul says she simply needs a little more time to meet the goals of NY’s Climate Law. But the truth is much more sinister! The reality is that Governor Hochul has missed deadline after deadline, cancelled funding for multiple clean energy projects, approved new fossil fuel pipelines, and created an energy plan that protects the fossil fuel industry. Now, she’s using her power in the State Budget process to pressure the legislature to gut New York’s Climate Law with loopholes that make dangerous climate pollution seem to magically disappear.
Make these calls to defend NY’s climate law: Assembly: 1. Speaker Heastie (HAY-stee): 518-455-3791 2. Majority Leader Peoples-Stokes: 518-455-5005 Senate: 3. Majority Leader Stewart Cousins: 518-455-2585 4. Deputy Majority Leader Sen Gianaris (gee-uh-NAIR-iss): (518) 455-3486
Sample script: “Hi, I’m ________ and I’m calling to urge ________ to stand strong against Governor Hochul’s proposed rollbacks to the climate law. Now more than ever, we need clean and renewable energy to protect New Yorkers from volatile fossil fuel prices and the worst impacts of climate change. Loopholes and accounting tricks won’t drive good energy policy that we desperately need.” Provide your zip code if asked and thank them for taking your message.

A core intention of CNY Solidarity Coalition is to bring together and support organizations already out there helping directly affected communities in the Central New York area. Each week we’ll spotlight one of the over 100 organizations in our Directory; there’s a LOT going on!
Greater Syracuse Tenants Network
The Greater Syracuse Tenants Network (Tenants Network) supports housing in Central New York by assisting low income tenants obtain and preserve safe and affordable rental housing. The Tenants Network’s approach is to organize tenants into associations at individual low income properties to represent their interests with the management, supervisory agencies such as DHCR and HUD, and in community forums such as TNT. The key to this approach is providing leadership development, training, information, education and counseling to tenant leaders and individuals, who then become the leaders of the tenant associations. The Tenants Network provides counseling, outreach and referrals to assist tenants to transition into home ownership. The Tenants Network conducts training for landlords and human service workers.

This sovereign indigenous government, which follows the Great Law of Peace, inspired American democracy. The Onondagas advocate for the environment and share prophecies about climate change, while engaged in a battle with the state over ancestral lands stolen in defiance of a treaty with George Washington.
The Good Mind is the Onondaga and Haudenosaunee (Iroquois Confederacy) philosophy and way of life. When the Peacemaker brought his message 1,000 years ago to the shores of sacred Onondaga Lake, he united warring peoples with a system of governance based on using the Good Mind to make decisions not only for the present, but for the next seven generations.
