Two Urgent Actions from SIRDN Over the past four months, the SIRDN legislative team has been working on a project related to the Mattydale ICE facility in the Town of Salina. That facility is the hub of ICE activity for a huge part of our region and has made Syracuse ground-zero for ICE enforcement. We have been working closely with the Town of Salina and other allies to research ways to curtail the facility’s operations. Our efforts have been focused on passing legislation that would require inspections and oversight of the facility by the Town, as laid out in the Town Code. We now know, from planning documents obtained through a FOIL request, that the facility has three detention cells and is operating as a small detention center. In response, we are asking the Town of Salina Board to pass a resolution that would provide oversight for detention facilities in the Town by requiring them to have an operating permit.
What can you do? We are at a critical time. The Town has agreed to put our resolution on the agenda for their next meeting Monday, June 22nd, 6:30pm at the Salina Town Hall. We need to show that they have all our support and that we will all stand together against what ICE is doing to our neighbors.

JF Real Estate Profits from ICE Terror Syracuse-based JF Real Estate owns the Oswego Border Patrol Facility building. JF Real Estate is owned by John Funiciello, and represents roughly 3 million square feet of commercial space and more than 175 apartments in CNY. Recently, Funiciello said that he owns the Border Patrol building and leases it to the federal government. The current annual rent was advertised as $376,137. The Oswego border patrol facility has come under scrutiny for their direct role in the detention of at least 57 workers from Cato, NY and for their close ties with local law enforcement.
Together we demand that JF Real Estate cease their support of ICE and CBP (Customs and Border Patrol), while we urge the Syracuse Common Council to pass the full Melt the Contracts resolution: To ensure that businesses that support ICE enforcement efforts are barred from entering into contracts with the city government.

Join Neighbors For A Better Micron Neighbors For A Better Micron is an association of residents who are Micron’s close neighbors. They filed a lawsuit in January 2026 because, in the words of its president, “our local and state governments have yet to address a core question: Has the company done enough to guarantee us that the economic benefits of its “mega-fab” will outweigh a range of potential negative impacts? We are concerned that the preparation to welcome our new neighbor has overlooked key questions, including rising housing costs, worker exposure to toxic chemicals, the pollution of air and water we rely on, significant greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, a risk of flooding from wetlands destruction, and a strain on our transportation system.” As close neighbors, this association has legal standing to bring this lawsuit.
Becoming a member of this group means supporting their association’s general mission of encouraging Micron to be a good neighbor. It does not mean you’re part of any legal actions they take, and regardless of whether you choose to join as a member, you will not be personally liable for the lawsuit. There are many other ways to help accomplish our mission unrelated to the lawsuit, such as helping organize events, attending meetings, or conducting educational outreach.

De-ICE Citizens Bank Protest – Continuing The 6/19/26 Pop-up Honk and Wave is canceled. We are directing activists to the De-ICE Citizens Bank protest on 6/20/26 10-12pm, 7941 Brewerton, Rd. Cicero.
Join us June 20 to tell Citizens Bank to stop funding for-profit prison companies CoreCivic and GEO Group. These companies are making hundreds of millions of dollars by colluding with ICE to violate our neighbors human and Constitutional rights, and are doing so without independent oversight. No company should profit from harmful detention practices without consequences. We demand that Citizens Bank publicly sever business ties with CoreCivic and GEO Group.

Fundraiser for Blake Gendebien – NY21 Congressional District Wednesday, June 17, 06:00 PM – 08:00 PM 647 Fellows Ave, Syracuse Because the stakes are so high this year, included in this event is support for a candidate outside of our district. Blake Gendebien is a Democrat candidate for the House of Representatives in NYS District 21, the seat previously held by Elise Stefanik. When the hosts learned that one of the Republican candidates gifted a gold-painted bronze statue of Trump to Trump, that now sits on a Florida golf course, it reinforced the need to recognize the value in looking beyond our district. Some of us are committed to fundraising for Blake to get a young, solid person into the seat not only for New Yorkers but also for the country. All contributions, no matter the amount, are appreciated. Blake will join us by Zoom for a few minutes to express appreciation and brief us on his background. Please text 315-263-7774 or email Farrell.kim@gmail.com if you will be able to attend. Tasty food (including vegan and vegetarian tare) and drinks will be served. More important, you will see how kinship and camaraderie among neighbors uniting for action towards the common goal of a safe and just society can really work!
