Salina Melt ICE – Join the Petition Drive! The Salina Melts ICE campaign is in need of volunteers to help circulate petitions calling on the Town Board to create a Task Force to investigate conditions at the Mattydale ICE facility. Specifically, they need volunteers for this Wednesday (8/26), and next Wednesday (9/2) from 5-8pm. If you are able to help, please sign up here

Boycott Target for Back-To-School Back-to-school season is in full swing, which usually means one thing: the annual, chaotic Target run for color-coded folders, glue sticks, and fresh outfits. But this year, more than a dozen national organizations are choosing to do things differently. Target loves to market itself as a friendly, community-minded hub for suburban families. But when local organizers in Target’s own corporate home of Minneapolis asked the corporation to stand up against ICE abuses targeting neighbors in its own backyard, Target ignored them. Instead of using their massive platform to protect local families, uphold worker rights, and support community values, they chose silence and their own profits over people. We teach our kids every day that standing by while people are hurt isn’t an option. The same rules apply to multi-billion-dollar corporations. Join Neighbors For A Better Micron Neighbors For A Better Micron is an association of residents who are Micron’s close neighbors. They filed a lawsuit in January 2026 because, in the words of its president, “our local and state governments have yet to address a core question: Has the company done enough to guarantee us that the economic benefits of its “mega-fab” will outweigh a range of potential negative impacts? Becoming a member of this group means supporting their association’s general mission of encouraging Micron to be a good neighbor. It does not mean you’re part of any legal actions they take, and regardless of whether you choose to join as a member, you will not be personally liable for the lawsuit. There are many other ways to help accomplish our mission unrelated to the lawsuit, such as helping organize events, attending meetings, or conducting educational outreach. visit us online

Meet The Candidates On This Year’s Ballot
All NY primary races have been decided, and there’s a full slate of candidates for Congressional, statewide, and local offices. While CNY Solidarity Coalition does not endorse candidates, we do urge everyone to support candidates that align with our values.
Special note: Last year, Democrats gained a majority in the Onondaga County Legislature for the first time in nearly 50 years! As voters also approved changing Legislature terms from two to four years, candidates are running in all 17 districts again this year, including our own Elaine Denton running for re-election in District 10. There are several other flippable races in Syracuse and Central NY. Please see our website for more information

DHS New Rule impacting older immigrants – What Advocates Need to Know Wednesday, August 26, 02:00 PM – 03:00 PM Virtual webinar The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published a new rule regarding public charge determinations, which will negatively impact certain older immigrants and their families. Public charge determinations are relevant for people seeking admission to the United States and people seeking to adjust their immigration status to Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), also known as “green card” holders. The new rule enables immigration officers to consider a wide variety of factors when determining if someone may depend on the government as their main source of support in the future. The new rule takes effect September 18, 2026. In this webinar, Public Charge Final Rule: What Advocates Need to Know, presenters will provide an overview of the new public charge rule, including what has changed from the previous rule, and provide advocates with resources to stay up-to-date on public charge changes.
