HAPPENING TODAY: Environmental Protection Public Hearing: Water, Wastewater, and Our Environment in Onondaga County Tuesday, July 21 at 5:30 pm Central Library, 447 S Salina St, Syracuse The County Legislature’s Environmental Protection committee will hold a public hearing on water, wastewater, and our environment. With an over $500 million investment going into the Oak Orchard municipal wastewater facility and the county building a $1 billion dollar industrial wastewater facility for Micron. And a new water line from OCWA. Investment is happening and infrastructure issues continue to arise, the latest being water main breaks and sink holes. The meeting starts at 5:30pm and the public hearing will open at 6:00pm. Written comments should be submitted by email to Legislature@onondaga.govwith the subject line “7.21.26 Public Hearing.”

CNY Solidarity & IOC Next Meeting Sunday, August 2 at 3:00pm – 5:00pm Join us for a presentation about data center in NYS by Jennifer Stromer-Galley, a Professor in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. Data centers are essential to the growth of the burgeoning AI industry. But data centers come with controversy. This talk will give an overview of data centers—what role they play in the AI industry, current and proposed data center initiatives in New York, and the current state of public policy in CNY.
The second hour of our meeting we will break out into our working groups to plan protests, contact our representatives, and plan actions.

Tell Your Members of Congress: Vote NO on Additional Iran War Funding In the wake of last week’s total collapse of the fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement signed in June, the war is rapidly escalating, with tit-for-tat retaliatory strikes expanding the scope of the war to Kuwait, Jordan, and Syria.
On Sunday, the Washington Post reported that an anonymous U.S. official claims the Trump administration is “planning for a wider war” in Iran while also warning that U.S. forces likely lack the weapons capacity to “safely sustain operations” — an issue that the White House doesn’t seem to acknowledge. Recent U.S. attacks on airports, railway links and bridges along Iran’s southern coastline have even been interpreted as the prelude to a potential U.S. ground invasion.
Congress has formally rebuked Trump’s war on Iran, passing a Concurrent War Powers Resolution to end the war on June 23rd. But now, Trump is holding desperate meetings with skeptical lawmakers in the hopes of securing $87.6 billion in supplemental funding to continue this illegal, unpopular war.

Tell the SEC: Don’t Roll Back Corporate Climate Disclosure The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is moving to rescind an important rule that requires public companies to disclose climate-related financial risk. Such an outcome would take away vital information that regulators and investors (including public pension plans and retirement funds) need to make informed decisions in a rapidly changing world.
The rule that the SEC is trying to rescind requires companies to disclose the amount of heat-trapping emissions their businesses produce, how climate impacts and the clean energy transition might affect their businesses, and their plans for meeting global warming emissions reduction targets. This rule is important for protecting US financial systems and people’s investments, while also sending a clear market signal of the importance of businesses orienting toward a clean, climate-resilient future.
The Trump administration’s head-in-the-sand approach to climate change and repeated caving to corporate interests is harming everyday people and our economy. Join us in opposing their assault on transparency and science-based public policy.
Submit a comment to the SEC today in support of robust corporate climate disclosure requirements. Comments are due by Monday, August 3.

Join Neighbors For A Better Micron Neighbors For A Better Micron is an association of residents who are Micron’s close neighbors. They filed a lawsuit in January 2026 because, in the words of its president, “our local and state governments have yet to address a core question: Has the company done enough to guarantee us that the economic benefits of its “mega-fab” will outweigh a range of potential negative impacts?
Becoming a member of this group means supporting their association’s general mission of encouraging Micron to be a good neighbor. It does not mean you’re part of any legal actions they take, and regardless of whether you choose to join as a member, you will not be personally liable for the lawsuit. There are many other ways to help accomplish our mission unrelated to the lawsuit, such as helping organize events, attending meetings, or conducting educational outreach.

Tell the Public Service Commission: No New Nuclear in New York On June 11, Governor Hochul’s Public Service Commission kicked off a process to commit massive amounts of public money toward the construction of nuclear reactors in unspecified communities across upstate New York. State agencies have put forth an “options paper,” not asking whether New York should carry out this plan to build new nuclear reactors, but how they should go about it. Nuclear is the most expensive form of energy, and the public should not bear the costs of building new nuclear reactors when our existing nuclear fleet can’t even afford to operate without massive bailout subsidies from ratepayers. Submit a comment in Governor Hochul’s nuclear planning proceeding to say “no new nuclear in New York.” Comments are due August 10.

Economic Power – De-ICE Citizens Bank Update Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
Last Friday, Citizens Bank announced that it will exit its credit agreements with private prison giants CoreCivic and The GEO Group. This is an incredible win for everyone who refused to let a major bank finance the human suffering caused by ICE detention. Citizens calls this a business decision. We know the truth: community resistance matters and collective action works. But this isn’t over.
We’re calling on Citizens to publicly commit in the next 10 days to ending any and all current and future banking relationships with CoreCivic, GEO Group, and every other private prison company. This is the standard their peer banks have already met. to bank anyone regardless of reputational risk or First Amendment concerns. That executive order was not passed by Congress and conflicts with Supreme Court precedent.
