CNY Solidarity & Indvisible Onondaga County
|
We are incredibly honored to receive the Harriet Tubman Freedom Fund Award from Syracuse Onondaga County NAACP. This year’s theme of “Freedom in Our Time – Defending Democracy and Securing Voter Rights” is a core commitment of CNY Solidarity. As an all-volunteer grassroots organization, more than 100 Central New Yorkers join us at our monthly meetings to learn, help and take action. We continue to work towards economic, social, racial and environmental justice, and a world beyond war and militarism through our volunteers and the many local organizations that CNY Solidarity works with. Join us at the 48th Annual Syracuse Onondaga County NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner on May 21st. Tickets are available through May 14th
Watch this preview from WSYR’s “Bridge Street”, which included CNY Solidarity Coalition’s Peter McCarthy.

Pass the CREEP Act Call your Assembly person & House Speaker and tell them to pass the CREEP ACT (Ceasing Repeated Extremely Egregious and Predatory) Behavior Act, (A3226) which has already been passed in the Senate (2025-S3394A).
The bill would allow NYers to obtain a Civil Order of Protection against someone, even without family or romantic ties. Harassment and stalking has moved into the digital age and the laws must reflect this in protecting and keeping people safe.

The New York Health Act would guarantee healthcare for every New Yorker — while saving families, counties, cities, schools, and taxpayers billions of dollars. New Yorkers pay some of the highest healthcare costs in America. Not just through premiums and copays, but through rising property taxes, county budgets, school district costs, municipal employee benefits, and hidden healthcare costs baked into everyday life. The New York Health Act changes that. Learn More Here & Share!

Stop Congress from Erasing Trans Students! The anti-equality controlled U.S. House of Representatives can’t get over their obsession with attacking trans kids. This week, they are voting on a bill that would ban schools across the country from teaching about gender identity, using students’ correct names and pronouns, having books with trans characters – or even acknowledge the existence of trans people. This isn’t policy. It’s cruelty. Tell your Representative to vote NO on this horrendous MAGA bill. Send a message now!

May is School Budget Vote Month! May 19th is the date for all school budget votes in NY except for the “Big 5” city school districts (like Syracuse). School boards must hold public hearings on their proposed budgets between May 5th and 12th. Each school district publishes their meeting schedule on their websites. Economic Power Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
NIKE supports DEI, and the Trump EEOC is “investigating” It’s head-spinning that the investigation is being conducted by an agency created through the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to combat racial and other kinds of discrimination in the workplace. In yet another historical and moral inversion of the Trump era, the EEOC is now largely focused on going after discrimination against white people — in Nike’s case, “a pattern or practice of disparate treatment against white employees,” according to the recent EEOC court filing. The EEOC didn’t answer written questions from Capital & Main about the investigation, but chair Andrea Lucas has repeatedly suggested DEI itself is a form of discrimination that potentially violates civil rights laws.
