Organization Spotlight and Call To Action to Hold Micron Accountable
Forever Chemicals NY
ForeverChemicals NY is an independent public interest advocacy campaign organized by Central New York residents, engineers, and scientists. They have asked our Coalition to spread the word about an urgent petition action:
“Our last petition went to the 17 county legislators, because they held the vote — they had to approve the bond to build Micron’s treatment plant, and that vote was our voice.
Ryan McMahon took that vote away. He moved the decision out of the elected legislature and into a public corporation he created and staffs — a boardroom of people he employs or appoints, meeting where the public can’t reach them. The voice of the people was muzzled.
While that happens, his office hands out a document claiming Micron’s discharge permit contains enforceable PFAS limits. It does not. The state’s own Region 7 director admitted in writing on July 3 that the DEC is not required to establish enforceable effluent limitations. They didn’t just skip the limits — they wouldn’t even require the testing that would show what Micron is putting in our river.
Ryan McMahon works for us. The government’s job is to protect us — not to shield a $100 billion company from having to prove what’s in its wastewater.”
