CNY Solidarity & IOC Next Meeting Sunday, August 2 at 3:00pm – 5:00pm Join us for a presentation about data center in NYS by Jennifer Stromer-Galley, a Professor in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. Data centers are essential to the growth of the burgeoning AI industry. But data centers come with controversy. This talk will give an overview of data centers—what role they play in the AI industry, current and proposed data center initiatives in New York, and the current state of public policy in CNY.
The second hour of our meeting we will break out into our working groups to plan protests, contact our representatives, and plan actions.

A zoom link will be provided if you would like to watch on zoom. All are welcome.

Tell Your Members of Congress: Reject the Trump-Netanyahu Military Partnership Every year, Congress passes the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a massive defense bill considered a “must-pass” piece of legislation. Because it moves every year, lawmakers frequently try to slip in other policies that could not pass on their own. And unfortunately, even under Trump, many Democrats annually rubber-stamp this bill.
Trump and Netanyahu have worked closely over the past year and a half, partnering to commit devastating war crimes across the Middle East. Now, Congress is being asked to cement even deeper military cooperation and coordination with the Israeli government into US law.
At a time when the Israeli government continues its genocide in Gaza and military escalations across the region with the political and financial backing of our own government, Congress should not be making integration with Israel’s military a permanent feature of US defense policy or locking future administrations into even closer cooperation.
This year’s NDAA would expand military cooperation between the United States and Israel through joint weapons development, intelligence sharing, defense technology partnerships, and other forms of military coordination, all while reducing transparency and public oversight.

Call To Action to Hold Micron Accountable ForeverChemicals NY is an independent public interest advocacy campaign organized by Central New York residents, engineers, and scientists. They have asked our Coalition to spread the word about an urgent petition action: “Our last petition went to the 17 county legislators, because they held the vote — they had to approve the bond to build Micron’s treatment plant, and that vote was our voice. Ryan McMahon took that vote away. He moved the decision out of the elected legislature and into a public corporation he created and staffs — a boardroom of people he employs or appoints, meeting where the public can’t reach them. The voice of the people was muzzled.
While that happens, his office hands out a document claiming Micron’s discharge permit contains enforceable PFAS limits. It does not. The state’s own Region 7 director admitted in writing on July 3 that the DEC is not required to establish enforceable effluent limitations. They didn’t just skip the limits — they wouldn’t even require the testing that would show what Micron is putting in our river.
Ryan McMahon works for us. The government’s job is to protect us — not to shield a $100 billion company from having to prove what’s in its wastewater.”

Join Neighbors For A Better Micron Neighbors For A Better Micron is an association of residents who are Micron’s close neighbors. They filed a lawsuit in January 2026 because, in the words of its president, “our local and state governments have yet to address a core question: Has the company done enough to guarantee us that the economic benefits of its “mega-fab” will outweigh a range of potential negative impacts?
Becoming a member of this group means supporting their association’s general mission of encouraging Micron to be a good neighbor. It does not mean you’re part of any legal actions they take, and regardless of whether you choose to join as a member, you will not be personally liable for the lawsuit. There are many other ways to help accomplish our mission unrelated to the lawsuit, such as helping organize events, attending meetings, or conducting educational outreach.

Defend Grand Staircase & Bears Ears Monuments! Trump is attempting to slash nearly 3 million acres of protections and virtually eliminate Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in southern Utah. His actions also defy Intertribal collaborative management and shared stewardship of these landscapes. We’ve defended our national monuments when Trump and his allies attacked them before.
Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante are irreplaceable. They protect sacred Tribal cultural landscapes, incredible wildlife habitat, world-renowned recreation, and clean water. These places are part of our natural legacy—not for the highest bidder. Sierra Club stands alongside Tribal Nations, local communities, and everyone who believes these places should remain protected for future generations.
Fight back: Act to tell your Congress members to defend our national monuments!

Gas Planning: Let’s Get it Right! Thursday, July 16, 12:00 PM – 01:00 PM Zoom Event: see Registration link In 2020 the Public Service Commission launched a Gas Planning Proceeding. The goal: to direct the gas utilities to plan to meet the emissions reductions required by the CLCPA. Good planning is essential to ensure a smooth energy transition, strategically right-size the gas system, insure that the right investments are made at at the appropriate times, and to save ratepayers money. But so far, the gas planning has not yielded the hoped-for outcomes. Now in 2026, there’s an opportunity to reimagine gas planning and make it better. Register here
