CNY Solidarity & Indvisible Onondaga County

We are incredibly honored to receive the Harriet Tubman Freedom Fund Award from Syracuse Onondaga County NAACP. This year’s theme of “Freedom in Our Time – Defending Democracy and Securing Voter Rights” is a core commitment of CNY Solidarity. As an all-volunteer grassroots organization, more than 100 Central New Yorkers join us at our monthly meetings to learn, help and take action. We continue to work towards economic, social, racial and environmental justice, and a world beyond war and militarism through our volunteers and the many local organizations that CNY Solidarity works with. Thank you Syracuse Onondaga NAACP for this incredible honor, for an inspiring night and for all that you do for our democracy!

CNY Solidarity & IOC Meeting This Sunday! Sunday, May 31 at 3:00pm – 5:00pm All Saints Parish Center, 1342 Lancaster Ave Our first hour will feature a presentation about Syracuse’s Lead Water Crisis by Lanessa Chaplin and Lizmarie Montemayor Robles of NYCLU, and Oceanna Fair of Families for Lead Freedom.
Our second hour will be devoted to Committee break-out sessions, including Beyond War and Militarism: “We know that CNY Solidarity committees are working hard from several directions to stem the tide of fascism. And, we know that the Trump administration is bearing down on the use of weapons and wars in its fascist attempt to control life well beyond our borders. Ongoing wars are killing hundreds of thousands of people, bankrupting our country, placing our own soldiers in harm’s way, and sharply increasing the risk of nuclear catastrophe. If you would like to help increase the antiwar presence in our community, please consider joining our breakout meeting. We need to resist!” RSVP

Then, one week later on Sunday, June 7, we will be holding a local candidate forum. Details will be in next week’s newsletters

Stop the Pentagon’s Warfare-Powering AI Data Centers Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is quickly working to create an “AI-first” fighting force. To supercharge an already dangerous AI-powered war machine, the Army and Air Force are planning to build data centers spanning thousands of acres of military property in Texas, North Carolina, Utah, California, Arizona, and Georgia — and more could follow. It’s all to advance the usage of AI in warfare; autonomous weapons systems, algorithms making life-or-death decisions, robots with the power to launch nuclear weapons. Wall Street firms and private equity companies like the Carlyle Group and BlackRock are turning to the Pentagon to cash in on the AI boom, which is currently negotiating “exclusive” 50-year term leases of its property for the data centers. To get lawmakers to pay attention and prevent more data centers from destroying land, water, and air to power AI warfare tomorrow, we need as many people as possible speaking out today. Economic Power Where we choose to spend our money and time is one of our greatest collective strengths. Every purchase we make, and every time we just show up to help, we demonstrate our values and progressive ideals for human rights, labor rights, social justice, and environmental protection.
With all the calls for boycotts and actions, it can be overwhelming trying to decide where to focus our energies. These websites offer some suggestions for exercising our economic power:
Ethical Consumer for making informed choices Boycott Citizens focuses on Citizens Bank, but lists many other companies with ICE contracts Guide to BDS Boycott lists targets of the movement to end corporate complicity in Gaza genocide This article names several local businesses that donated profits after the January 30th “ICE OUT” protests; they deserve our continued support!
Do you know of an important boycott or action we missed? Please let us know!
